Hey guys, looking to purchase a skeet and trap gun and chasing clays. I am looking for some suggestions. Currently looking at a baretta with the ko. Would like Togo out and put a bunch of rounds through it without brushing my shoulder. Thanks guys

If you wish to shoot both Skeet and Trap seriously you will need 2 guns...one specific to each sport.

A trap gun used on the skeet field will most likely discourage by hindering your scores. Trap guns are set up to shoot rising targets going away from you. It takes lots of practice and skill to shoot any other target presentation with a trap gun.

I would recommend you buy a Field/Hunting or Sporting Clays model gun if you wish to shoot all forms of clays with only one gun. It will give you the best hit average and most enjoyment in the long run.

Any double barrel, pump or semi-auto shotgun will do the trick...although a pump action will require more practice for doubles if you haven't shot much with one.

I use a 32" Beretta 682 Gold E Sporting for all three disciplines, although I am mainly a skeet shooter. I actually shoot trap better with my 682 than my Remington 3200 Competition Trap gun, but I only shoot 16 yard singles. My strong recommendation would be to get a gun with an adjustable comb so the POI can be adjusted to suit your shooting style. In fact if you look at the "state of the art" competition guns like kreighoff, kolar and blaser, there is little difference between the trap skeet and sporting guns, with high ribs and parallel combs being the order of the day. A less pricey option would be the the browning XS Special.

There was a heck of a lot of guys in the day shot the 870 & 1100 two barrel sets and won a lot of trap and skeet matches. My original has a 26" skeet barrel and a 30" trap barrel. One gun can do both especially the new guns with choke tubes

If you are going to shoot trap and nothing but trap get a trap gun and never shoot anything else. But if you want to shoot multiple games get a gun that will shoot all of them. Trap guns are very good for trap but not as well suited as all round guns.

The gun I suggest for someone who wants to shoot them all is a Beretta 391 Sporting with a 28 or 30 inch barrel.

+1
Good advice right there. I have a dedicated trap gun, and I shoot it well. But it is currently away for warranty repairs, so I have been shooting my Beretta 391's. They are very good all around guns. You can shoot any clay sports, and they work well for hunting. The recoil is very light on them as well, without the kick off system.

To repeat Claybuster, it is much easy to shoot trap with a regular (sporting) shotgun, than it is to go shoot skeet or sporting clays with a trap gun.

skeet and trap guns are two different animals, as already pointed out. I started with trap just to get a feel for shooting at moving targets, and currently I use a Beretta UGB25 xcel (trap model) with adjustable comb and stock. nice gun, Beretta dropped their prices on a number of lines, including this one, which you should find for around $2300-2500 (nearly half of what it was when first released). You can find much less expensive ones though, depending on your budget and needs. :shotgun: have fun, its a great sport!
