This may belong in legalese, but perhaps you guys will know best.

I've consulted with my town regarding the bylaws on discharging firearms where I'm located, everything was cleared up, and my locations permits me to discharge any firearm no larger than a 12 gauge shotgun, or a .22 LR rifle.

So, is there any other parties I should get ahold of regarding my plans of skeet shooting in the back yard.
The last thing I want is the OPP to show up, guns drawn.

As long as you are the correct distances from dwellings and within noise bylaws out of city limits you can bang away. I can't even imagine how many rounds have been shot on my farm

I can not even think of how many rounds I have fired at my place. When I get a new smooth bore or work up a new batch of powder or just get bored and can not get to the range I can alway talk my wife into throwing a dozen apples. My neighbors are good and for most part I am flying under anyones radar. Anything more regular or steady fire may get some looking into land use bylaws and gun ranges etc. With the bylaw thing. I think it would be easier to ask for forgivness than permission.

I've got a call into the OPP, the lady couldn't answer my question, but she forwarded my number to an officer who will hopefully clear things up!

EDIT:
OPP called me back, he said he looked into the bylaws, and everything is all good!

You better check with the Ontario CFO in Orillia. They believe all regularly used shooting ranges need to be built to the CFC standards and to be inspected and approved under Section 29 of the Firearms Act.

They can prosecute for failure to be approved.

Oh it's not that fancy of a system, it's a big wire reel with a crappy tire launcher.

You still didn't catch it. The game you're playing is called trap. Lots of fun, we shoot thousands of rounds a year on our private land also. Except for the odd cattle that get excited, no problem with neighbors.

OMG don't tell the OPP you are building a range if that is what your plans are or you will regret it. Just check with your twp to make sure you are within the laws of discharging a firearm in your immediate area and have fun if you are. If you say you want to set up a range you are going to open a can of worms you don't want to open!!!

A friend of mine that lives about 15 miles NW of Kingston had a bunch of the guys out on a Sat. afternoon for some informal trap shooting. About an hour after they started an OPP officer showed up. He said they had received a complaint from a neighbour. It was from a lady who had just moved from the city. After asking if he cold see how they were set up he told them to have fun and good shooting. If a complaint comes in they are required to investigate it but that doesn't mean they agree or have to shut you down. Calling ahead would probably skirt even that.

Dont call the CFO. You are not building a range. You are having fun on the back of the farm.
Tossing some clay targets by hand or with a CTC thrower is no big deal. Have fun.
