I have used the Hok ski for coyote hunting and they do require some changes in what and how you carry gear. Ski poles, Rifle, back pack, shooting sticks and sitting pad/seat make for some adjustments. They are faster than snowshoes but not as fast a true cross country ski. They have decent flotation but not as good a traditional snowshoe. I like them for open country but they are brutal in cattails and reeds along the sloughs.

I think I'm giving them a try this winter there is sum hunting areas up by Hinton Aberta I would like to hunt that is no motor vehicle access
I'm in the process of realy lightening up my camping and hunting equipment I mean everything from tent, sleepbag, pack, rifle, clothing and packraft skishoes would expand my hunting season

Depends what you are planning to hunt of course. One of the reasons we end our deer, moose seasons fairly early is because they start to yard up when the snow comes...I dont think getting into a deer yard would constitute hunting in my mind. OTOH wacking a few coyotes or an occasional wolf that find their way into a yard (particularly when snow is deep) is ok in my books.

Wolf is my winter target I went on a wolf hunt as a kid we wear hunting on skies and snow shoes it was exciting at 14 I never seen one on that hunt but the trapper that brought me got two
Probably that's where I get my interest In skishoes

That sounds terrific!

For a lower cost alternative, check out Roycroft skishoes, same idea just a tad more 'basic'. I haven't tried them but it does have its appeal.

I wouldn't want to climb with those skiis, they look really heavy.

I'd say it depends on the terrain, if its steep , snow shoes are more stable specially without poles.
I have a pair of Yupi"s that are made of alluminum and similar in size to snow shoes but have a climbing skin permanentky glued to the bottom. They are fun but you need to use poles and be quick on your feet in steeper terrain specially descending . They can be "skied" telemark style on the decents if you know how.
I'd say for hunting snowshoes are more stable and don't require poles in both your hands, for travel the skiis have some advantage in some situations but its small and requires skiing skills.

Just watched the video and looked like those guys only way to stop was to bail. Some excellent helicopter action. There is a lot of gear out there and new stuff all the time. Walking in deep snow in the bush snowshoes are the way to go. Open country you will work hard on your way out but coming home is easy on skis. Have never tried the newer fat skis but understand they are much easier to learn on than the old gear.

Wondering if there is much snow cover in those eastern mountain slopes of Alberta?

NE Alberta right next to Northern Saskatchewan, zero snow cover so many weeks. Little bit in October, long since gone.

That's right!! Remember Leonardo DiCaprio telling us how global warming had caused Chinooks??

Ther is definitely a lack of snow so fare this winter
I would like to try the skishoes plus the single pole sking looks like fun
The one and only time I hunted on skis and snowshoes it was a pain switching from skis to snow shoes but that was the only way to chase the wolves thay would run through sum thick brush so off went the skies and put the snow shoes then back to skies did that all day it get old fast going from ski to snowshoes back to skis and so on
Or that's how I remember it but then agen that was a long time a go and time changes you memories from wen your young
