Skinner Barrel mount peep sights

I've tried a forward mounted peep on both a Henry lever action and a CZ-858.
I don't care for a ghost ring that far-out, and I believe the advantages are lost that far away from the eye. I found I lost too much sight picture.
Skinner sights are very popular here on CGN and easy to sell with little loss.
I say just order a set and give them a try for yourself.

Reminds me of the "Mojo" sights for SKS and Mauser K98s. Williams does an alternate aperture for their barrel-mounted rear sights as well. I'd think you'd want a pretty large aperture - really a ghost ring - if it's to be that far away.

Slightly O.T., I'm fixing up a semi-bubba'd M-S carbine and thought of putting a Skinner aperture in one of the 6-48 scope mount holes on the receiver. I'd tried this with a Williams WGOS as well. The problem in this case is that it would require a pretty high front sight (.840 for the Williams and about .725 for the Skinner) which I thought would look out of place on such a trim rifle. The aperture over the breech wasn't too bad visually though. Unfortunately the existing barrel sight is missing and the dovetail base is on a ring rather than cut into the barrel, so that Skinner sight won't work due to the barrel contour.

I have one on my Ruger 77/44. I like it but without the smaller apetures provided by Skinner and used as a ghost ring. It is faster than the folding rear leaf site and works well with the factory front.

I put one on my Winny 1894, and I love it as a ghost ring. My eyesight is still pretty sharp, so I can even use the smaller apertures, but for the most part I just use the peep without the inserts. It's a heck of a lot easier to shoot well with it than with the old buckhorn sights.

A few years ago I replaced the oem peep on my Winchester 22 with one of these. They made it with a bit smaller aperature than normal and I thinned out the foresight to match. Works great, simple to adjust and very solidly made.
