Ive long disliked the rear sight on my Win 94. I referred to it as the Banana sight because I felt it was looking trying to place the front sight into a banana shaped sight. I dont like Williams sights. My gun is a top eject thus not scopeable with the exception of that silly side mount thing. So I took the chance and purchased a Skinner barrel mounted peep sight for it. A couple swipes with a triangular file and it fit into the dovetail groove snugly and securely. The front blade worked perfectly with the new rear sight. I took the included aperture off and use it like a ghost ring.

I gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised with how well it shoots now. I had long feared that the peep mounted on the barrel would be too far forward to of much use. Well, to be blunt, I was dead wrong. Its fast to aim, and the gun now prints a three shot group meauring 0.75" at 50m. I'll take that any day from the old 94.

Skinner was fantastic to deal with too. Under a week from placing the order until it arrived in my hands.

Thanks for the link and opinion. It's something I just might try and won't break the bank if I don't like it. Pity they don't make one to fit the factory drill and tapping on the side of the Winchester 94's. The photo example he uses for the top eject 94 had to be drilled and tapped yet there in the photo are two nice factory plugged holes on the side of the receiver.

What length barrel is your rifle? I have a trapper clone of the '92 and don't care for rear sight. Have looked at Skinner but was unsure if sight would be high enough.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to order a skinner barrel mounted peep on my Rossi m92 in .454 Casull. I was on the fence then did a search and found a couple threads saying they work great. I had a receiver mounted skinner in a Marlin .45/70 and really liked it is I know first hand the skinners are well made, just wasn't sure about mounting so far forward. I hate semi-buckhorn sights!

I mounted a Skinner sight on a Model 92, but found it not much better than an open sight. The only rear sights I mount on 92's and 94's now are XS ghost ring sights. These are much quicker in use and give the rifle a proper sight radius with all barrel lengths.

Funny how folks keep trying to reinvent the wheel. The "ghost ring" sight pictured can be achieved by simply screwing out the aperture in the old style Lyman/Redfield 94 peep sights as most who hunted in the thick stuff did. As an added bonus the Lyman/Redfield or Williams had much more precise click adjustments.

Good looking peep sight, I have Williams peep sights on my model 94 30-30 and model 100 Winchester in 308. I have the aperature removed on both. I like a peep for hunting in the bush, fast location of target. I never could get used to a scope in the thick stuff, all I see is trees. is this a new product, never heard of this company. I am new to can gun nutts, and enjoying it very much. old243

True enough, but fer me,I don't cotton up to the added lump on the side of the receiver that these older designs offer. The XS is easily as precice as the older lumps and much more durable for knock about use. Lighter, tougher & more reliable in the field fer sure, plus they look good to boot. :)

It ain't about reinventing the wheel, it's about keeping a system robust and simple.
