On my rifle it is near the lower-end of elevation. I screwed it low enough so it doesn't interfere with the bolt sliding. It looks like it's on the upper end because I locked the elevation down with the lock ring. If I really wanted I could screw it all the way down, and determine how many threads I needed to grind off. But it seems to be at a good height where it is now. Andy, the owner, can probably make the stem shorter if I wanted him too. He makes each sight to order.
You could use a taller or shorter front sight post, I haven't tested it out yet on this rifle. But Skinner does sell front sights.
Another option is the barrel-mounted peep sight, but I feel like that decreases the advantages of a peep sight.
As regard to durability, it's top grade machined steel screwed onto equally top grade 1952 FN Belgian steel. I'm not rough on my guns so I'm not too worried that it'll fall off during a hunting trip.
