Skinner is now making a peep sight for the Ruger No.1

The windage adjustment is interesting.
It would look better if the muzzle end wasn't so blunt, maybe scalloped with a ball nose cutter like the sides at the front, but deeper.

$75 for the blued version, they also make it in brass and stainless for a little more.
It comes with a .096" aperature.

I ordered the blued version with an extra .155" aperature. :)

The rear screw hole is slotted and the whole thing pivots side to side on the front screw.
If you need a lot of windage to get it lined up it, it will probably ride off the rib a little.
Not perfect, but less bulky than the NECG, and a lot more open for a hunting sight.

I like that the sight is designed without any extra metal to obscure the sight picture, but am disappointed that it does not appear to be a QD mount. It could not have been difficult to utilize the Ruger scope mount notches to mount this sight, It would be kinda useless as a back up to a QD mounted scope, you would need to bring wrenches along to mount it. Maybe someone will get it right one day. Still waiting...

I just ordered the guide gun set for my Marlin 1895G, it comes with the receiver mounted peep and a partridge front blade. I like the fact if you need to you can use it without the aperture and have a .200" ghost ring as well. The factory sight on the Marlin is not very good, I have always preferred some type of aperture sight. The windage adjustment is different and uses a dovetail mounted aperture in the main sight base with a set screw to lock it solid after it is set. Simple but strong. I looked a quite a few options and felt the Skinner was built the best but surprisingly one of the least expensive.

I asked Andy about this a while back when looking for a no-drill Ghost ring for my 77 RSI 250 Savage, and received this response -

I have several Rugers that need a good sighting system. I'd love to make it a "clamp on" unit but every design I come up with seems too cumbersome. The sleekest design I've been able to come up with would mount with one screw hole drilled and tapped (6-48) in the "notch" of the Ruger Mount. By drilling and tapping there, it wouldn't really show or look out of place with the sight removed. Ruger uses this system on their 308 "Scout" rifle with the aperture sight. I think our sight will be more durable and more aesthetically pleasing.

Thanks for the encouragement to get back on the Ruger Project.

Here is one that IS quick detach.

I cobbled it together from a Ruger ring and a folding peep sight from a Redfield base.

Haven't tried it out yet.
Hope it's close because there isn't a lot of windage adjustment.
Elavation shouldn't be a problem.

I got a surprise in the mail yesterday, my Skinner sight showed up!
12 days from the time I ordered until it was in my mailbox.
I honestly wasn't expecting it that quickly.

I'm hoping to get out tomorrow and test it out.
I'm going to have to get my act together tonight and finish off that sight pusher I've been working on so I can remove the express rear on my 7x57. :)
