Skinning knife

Like to try out some new knives, will be hunting seals on the ice & rattles here in Labrador, (hunt to eat them) like to have a good skinning knife, let me know whats good out there, please and thanks.

Fallkniven F1, especially good for wet or bloody hands with the rubbery grip. Sheath is also durable and comfortable to wear, something many skinning knives lack. Leather isn't really that good for wet/bloody/dirty knives. I generally pick this one and I have drawers full of knives.

What's a "rattle"?
 
I hunt all fall and trap all winter, tried all kinds of knives and for the price nothing beats a mora they are great. In fact I cut off the front and back quarters off a full grown bull cow that died and used it for bait for my snares, did the whole thing without using a steel to touch up the edge,,forgot it at home. If you loose one its no big deal as they are about $15 bucks. They have different sizes to meet your needs. Amazon is best place to buy them. Caribou also make good knives, check out Dam beaver supplies, they have a good selection.
I also have some Benchmades with s30 v, some Bucks and other higher end knives but after loosing a Hidden Canyon hunter I paid over $200 for they stay at home.
 
Believe it or not all we use anymore are straight bladed Henkel 6" boning knives that only cost 22 bucks. My son sewed up some
sheathes and that was that. Victorknox has some similar ones, and a little lambskinner I want to try.
 
I really like the Morakniv Eldris. It’s got a 2.2” stainless blade and a nice rubber handle, sits in the palm of your hand and index finger so perfectly it’s like cutting with your finger tip.

I use the same ones for butchering. The yellow handled ones from cabelas. Excellent knives. I bought a bunch of new ones just to give away to friends for little presents. I also started using them for kitchen knives.
 
Yeah, that's the one. I initially picked up one on a whim, thinking that would be better for quartering moose and such. Some friends have started using them as well, and my son makes cases for them.
 
I have a bunch of higher end knives that I love the look of and the materials used to make them. Wood grips , micarta grips , bone grips and a bunch of different blade materials from D2 , s30V , carbon steels , stainless steels i have a bunch.

for skinning nothing even comes close to the Havalon knives. They are not that expensive and scary sharp. Plus you never have to sharpen them as you can just replace the blade. I also carry a camp knife for chores but for field dressing and skinning the Havalon is tops.
 
I use a Mora bushcraft black owing to the rubberized handle, good for no slip grip and bloody hands. The other knife I bring is a Havalon Piranta.

I visited the Grohmann factory driving through Pictou last year. I was psyched to buy a #3 but was underwhelmed when I got it in my hands.

The no.3 is my workhorse. I have used it on everything I've shot, from small game, waterfowl, upland, deer and black bears. It has yet to let me down.
 
The carbon steel models might be ok, but the stainless steel is soft and won't hold an edge. I haven't tried the carbon and stainless was all I could find when I was shopping for one.

This has been my experience as well. I may try a flat grind carbon version but the sheath was also quite disappointing.
