Skinning

What works really well with deer hanging head up from a pole/tree is a knife down as far as around the front legs, then tie a rope around a handful of hide on the back. connect the rope to your quad (winch or hitch) and slowly tighten rope. Peels right down to bottom of back legs, then cut off legs -done. Haven't tried it when carcass has cooled out, but slicker than snot on a plate with a warm carcass.

doesn't work well on a cold carcass.... That's where the air compressor trick works well...

Just practice the proper way. I can field dress in 10 minutes tops and skin in 20 assuming I am caping the animal. It takes even less if it's a doe and you can slit the throat.

Used to have this cable gizmo that you used a skin a deer. You used a golf ball or a rock and the loop tightened around it. Didn't work worth a darn. We did use a air compressor to skin ostriches at one time but we threw the bodies away as we just wanted the skins.

Skinning a warm deer takes about 5 minutes.
A couple of cuts in the back legs, hang them head down, give a couple big yanks on the hide and you are done.

If the deer is cold you waited too long........

There's an easy trick for a deer... Open the hide up on the legs, get enough pulled loose either with a knife or by tearing it, now, take and drive your fist down the spine as far as you can... Repeat all the way around the animal... As you won't get all the way down the animal, repeat the process around the neck, skin out the front legs, then decide what you'll do with the skin. Cut it off or cape it. I can skin a sheep like that in about 3 minutes, and a deer is very little different to skin in my experience.

And for God's sakes, people, skin out past the elbows and knees so you're not diddling with that at the butcher shop... It's much easier to skin that while the rest of the hide is attached...

This.^^^
Seems like there is always someone pushing a new better solution to what I consider a non-existant problem. I'm pretty sure they covered the basics in Hunter Training, but in case they didn't...you will likely have to get wet, eh.
Or you could just start dating girls from the rez, sometimes that works too. Monyias women will occasionally take to it I've heard...but never seen.
But if getting yucky isn't your thing...perhaps shooting sports might involve some paper targets and a black rifle?

Interesting...anyone ever tried this before and if so please tell us your experience.

Never said I was going to use this method as I skin the normal way in no time...I was just wondering if anyone had tried it and what their thoughts were on it!!!!!!!! Some of the comments were uncalled for and people should think and read the post before they respond...thanks for those that gave their honest feelings.....

You are correct, beg pardon if I was short. Sometimes the 'Grumpy Old Fart' get out and runs amok.
A snort of ether for him and back under the stairs.
Truth be told, I tried it years back. On a fresh deer it made it unpleasantly cool to skin it. Air cooled it so to speak. Perhaps on a next day recovery it might aid skinning though. But a fresh kill, just a sharp knife and a fresh coffee works best IMO
