skitto dope

skitters

what ever you do , dont wear blue, skeeters love blue, had a blue hat hanging in my riverboat, had about a 100 skitters on it and i was'nt even wearing it. blue is out . except for tarps, you can see a blue tarp for 5 miles even in the deep dusk. mighty handy after a long day on the river.lots of deet is manditory also. lets all have fun out there.

In my neck of the woods, the skeeters and mozies haven't come out hard yet, but I did find a couple of "black widows" in my shop.

I got some of that 98% deet at Bass Pro Shop in Orlando......I bought lots. Yeah, it's not good for you, but neither are carrots and apples.

I tried the Thermacell gizmo for the last few days of turkey season. It is NOT odourless, but it worked quite well in protected areas. It the air was still I saw virtually no skeeters while the unit was burning, and the effect began much faster than the 30 minutes the instructions suggested.

We tried it on the back porch a couple of evenings when there was a very light breeze, and it wasn't nearly as effective.

How long do those things last? Are the buthane containers rechargeable?

The butane cartridges are not rechargeable. They claim that one cartridge will last "up to 12 hours", which seems to be about right. One of the blue mats with the bug dope on it is good for about 4 hours, and the refills come with 3 mats for every one butane cartridge.

Not the cheapest way to beat the bugs. I think I'll continue to use it for turkey hunting, but not much else.

Better still, I'm gonna work harder to get the second bird before the bugs are out!
