SKS 30 round mag legal?

if you want more capacity just get a pump action 7615 remington in .223...u get ten instead of 5, by the way it is illegal to use firearms as home defense in canada. another thing to consider is that the so called intruder will only have 5 rounds in his mag because he to is honor bound to the "5 round" rule...

So I was wondering if I am legally allowed to own, ONLY TO OWN!, a 30 round mag for the sks without actually using it on the range. The thing would not leave the safe. I am just wondering what is the law on that.

Mladen, you are either really new at this or are a 'troll' (is that what they call it?) looking to get a response that gets a CGN-er to admit he or she is breaking the law. I think you'll find the group here not only knows the law but follows it 100%. If your question is honest I, respectfully, suggest you read up on the laws because the answer to a question like yours is easily found.

Sorry for being such a sour puss but maturity and knowing the law is pretty important in my firearms community.

Now what you COULD do, if you want a legal 30 rd. mag, is design and build a bolt, pump, or lever action 7.62X39 that uses a detachable mag. Design the 30 rd. mag for that rifle, but so it can also fit CZ/SKS-D or whatever you want. Make sure it is clearly marked and identified as a mag for the SCHMUCKER F-12, then you should be good to go, as far as I read the regs. That is until the horse cops found out about it and and got an OIC banning those mags too.

It truly was an honest question since I did read the law and I find some parts of it confusing at times. So I wanted to ask the only ppl I saw fit. The ppl on this board are the only ones that seem to know what the hell the law is since an RCMP officer does not know the answer to this one. The same officer that told me that I needed a permit to transport my rifle in a locked "container" to the rifle range....... Anyways back to the point.
I do not want anyone to get in trouble here. That said, if I stepped on any ones toes here I do apologize. You must admin how interesting it is to see this thread get this long......

a full cap mag falls under the same group as owning a suppressor. A prohibited device. You get caught with one, you better lube up, cause the gov't won't think twice about bending you over.

Think about it like owning 1kg of cocaine. Sure you arn't using it or planning on selling it, but it's still illegal to own.

I do still find it funny how before 1989 full cap mags were ok, after 89 full cap mags were ok, but after 95 you became a super criminal for having one.

But hey, we are safer now, you can't shoot up a school or workplace with all the laws that the liberals put in place... because really who in their right mind would risk the jail time by breaking a gun law while killing people or robbing a bank...

...you got that right! I never thought it would surpass 10 posts :D

If that's the same gun i'm thinking of it uses AR mags and since the mag was origionally designed for a semi-auto it must be pinned to 5 rounds even if you're using it in a manual action riffle. You can use an LAR PISTOL mag in it though, since it's a pistol mag 10 rounds is good to go!

It goes in a rifle. Sounds like a rifle mag to me. :D

That's why they are stamped "Lar-15 Pistol Magazine" so that you know it's designed for a pistol. If it just so happens to fit in a rifle and work, yay us!

This 5 round rule is so stupid. I can carry around a high powered rifle (5rds) which is 10x more lethal than my 9mm handgun (which I can only take to the range and back).

These laws don't really make much common sense, it's tough to think of them in that way.

I guess the "powers that be" think the high capacity mags are too dangerous if someone goes crazy, like the dummy in Arizona with a 30rd glock mag. I'm sure if someone went psycho here, they could manage to get a pinned mag back to full capacity.

I feel insulted that the RCMP won't trust me with a 30rd mag at the range, even after they've licenced/sent me to school/background checked/interviewed me. Seriously, how many crimes have been committed with a registered long gun?

My CZ75 mag is supposed to take 16rds, arrrggggh.
