SKS-45 Bolt Disassembly Question

I've had mine for a few weeks now and have put a good few rounds through it. It's been cleaned after each round but now I'd like to give it a very thorough cleaning but am having a heck of a time getting the retainer pin out of the bolt. It's a 55/56 so has the free floating pin. Is there a trick? Or do I just clamp it down and use a hammer and set? Do I have to worry about damaging anything?

place it over a roll of tape or something to support it but allow the extractor retaining pin to be punched out.

grab a punch and hammer...punch out the pin...rest is straight forward.

OK has anyone ever had a pin that will NOT come out. I've beat on it and it is not budging and I'm worried about damaging it.

Any other tips would be helpful, even just some reasurance that I can't hurt it by beating longer and/or harder.

Well it might start to hurt after a while...

Joking aside, some take quite a wack to get out. If you've never had it out before though it could be dried cosmoline binding it up, try some penetrating oil or something, let it soak overnight then try again.
 
Put it in a pan and pour boiling water over it. Let it heat up for a minute, and then try again. And maybe use something other than a roll of tape. Something that won't give when you pound on it. I put mine in a vice. And make sure you use a good steel punch. If that does not work, then try putting it into the freezer overnight, and pound on it again. If that does not work, try heating it with a propane torch. But be careful. I am thinking overheating the bolt and pin is not a good idea.

My first SKS took A LOT of force to get the firing pin retaining pin out. What I did was drill a hole in some wood and pounded it with a punch. I think I bent 2 punches getting it out and was using a lot of force
Another method I have not used on guns but on other things, is get something with a hole larger than the size of the pin and something the same size or smaller of the pin, then put it in a vice or press and add more force until it drifts out.

This is a stupid question but are you pounding it through the right way? (Not all have that weird shape on the one side...)
 
I use the holes in the top of my B&D Workmate folding table. They need a good whack or two sometimes, a chunk of 2x4 with a hole drilled through the centre might be the ticket for you.
 
you all know the cleaning rod will fit pushing in the extractor arm pin right? Also the pin/punch that comes with the cleaning kit will fit, what is with ppl using hammers and punches on firearm bolts?
