Sks, 5 + 1?

Greetings,

Yes, I am still new. Stick with me :)

So, the mag of the SKS holds 5 rounds. Great. Can you load one into the chamber with 5 still in the mag? Every time I try it, the bolt wants to pick one up from the mag and jam it into the back of the +1 I put in.

You can go 5+1 it just takes some manipulation. Put the 6th round in the chamber, hold down the bullets in the mag, close the block slowly over the case rim then ram it home. But... If your firing pin strikes he firing pin with enough force a chain of events will follow.
 
Depending on how you mag is pinned you might need to do some grinding work to get it to work properly. The one in mine is a big fat plug riveted to the bottom of the mag and in order to get 5 rounds in the mag and be able to close the bolt I would have to grind off the top of the plug in order to push the rounds down enough so that they clear the closing bolt. Personally it is too much work for one extra round..
 
I can do it one one of mine really easily. It seems to be pinned at like 5.9 and it always strips six rounds off the charger, but the sixth just barely doesn't fit into the magazine. If I load five into it and push down on the rounds, I can slip one shot into the chamber and close the bolt on it for six. I rarely do, but I can and have. My five other models require too much work for me to have ever bothered.
