Stock was refinished in tung oil.

Cheek pad from Brownell's via Epps. Brake from FabSports.

What you don't see is the receiver cut out mod and gas tube mod that really help in retrieving brass (they weren't done when these images were taken). You also can't see the full bedding.

Overkill? Perhaps. But it works for me.

do you mean you toned it down a bit so the brass dont fly 300 feet in the air?

that's pretty cool if you did. interesting to see what u did

CharlesT, Hey from Colorado.
Great looking SKS, I also did the Weaver Converta-
mount install and recently added a Leapers Scope.
How is your Leapers holding up? Round count ?
I to am interested in the gas tube mod. esque

Glad you like the rifle.

The gas tube mod can be found at

The receiver mod can be found at

Scroll to post #60.

The Leapers fixed 4x has held up over 700 rounds.

The cheek weld is great with the pad. I mounted the scope as low as possible. In order to use the iron sights or to remove the dust cover I have to loosen the two thumb screws on the mount. That takes maybe 10 seconds.

Oh and I did install a Murray's firing pin as I shoot reloads as well as Czech surplus.

Awesome work. The drill and tap side mounts are really the way to go, since they are rock solid, unlike every version of those ridiculous replacement bolt cover mounts. I had one and had to resight my rifle after every cleaning. What a joke. Then I had a Choate professionally installed on my 56 by the local smith and now I can remove the bolt cover without moving a thing. I just need to have my smith do the gas tube and receiver cut-out mods now and I'm sure I'll be printing very respectable groups.

Yeah well I know the guy that did your mount and boy did he fool you!

woodlotowner when you make comments like that it makes people want to post infromation & pic's less not more. Why not try to be less negative when posting. That is unless you think :nest: is a good way of getting honey.

woodlotowner try using smiley's after razzing people like this and we will all get the point that your bugging your friend. :p
CharlesT now try adding some bedding compound to the front of the stock were it touches the metal flap & were the cleaning rod goes threw. Also the back at the rear of the reciever were the trigger bar that comes down out of the reciever and the top part of the stock were it touches the under side of the reciever. This will make it hadder than he!! to put back together and your ears will ring with joy! None the less looking good you SkS :ninja:

The receiver is tight to the rear of the stock so I think it's OK. Good idea to bed by the recoil lug. Will give it a try.

Thanks

Why go to all that trouble when the receiver cover scope mounts are way better ;)
