Bought another sks today and gained a wee bit of info about sks's that i thought i would share.

Did you know?

apparently sks's are judged on accuracy based upon a number marking from 1-3 on the front sight post just above the barrell, 1 being the most accurate and 4 being the worst. cannot confirm the truth of this but though i would share. i have two and both have a 1 marking above the barrell and i never knew this info. let me know if u have a another marking to confirm!

This story has been floating around for many years, with some people insistant that its true. A few years ago we tested this theory(myth) with 15 or 18 rifles. All rifles shot from a 3 point bench rest with the same ammo. Its totally false. Further to this, the best shooter for accuracy was a painted bolt, non-chrome barrel with a stock that looked like it had been run over with a tank.

I just checked my two ruskies out.. The 1950 has some stamping that I never noticed,.. and the 1949 is painted black and cant see much of anything for stampings,... it seems the front post has been ground down.

If four inch groups with milsurp is considered accurate.. then thats where I'm at so I dont need a stamp mark to tell me how well they shoot.:D

Its got nothing to do with accuracy, its the outer barrel diameter, stamped so they could easily fit a correct sized bayo during production and/or refurb.

Many dirt bikes come with A B C or D marked on their cylinder. Same thing, its to fit the correct sized piston quickly. Large production figures create small variations in tolerances.

I read a similar myth about CZ-52s here: harringtonproducts.com/markings.php

I think that perhaps when there are markings that have no relevance to the customer, these rumors pop up in an attempt to explain every last marking on the firearm.

As others have mentioned it is likely that the numbers only have significance to the factory.
