SKS Accuracy

More info, please.

Maybe you can take a video and show how it's done, cause I don't have a clue.

.

Someone else already made such a vid quite some time ago...

Practice practice practice.

Methinks too many folks out there practice sloppy position instead, and in short practice to miss, so then they blame the rifle.

There are guys using handloads that are getting 1 1/2 to 2 inch groups at the 100m point. There's no reason a good SKS can't shoot well with proper ammo and a good operator behind the trigger.

Check it out here.

SKS & accuracy is an oxymoron !
All except one group which was admited to being a fluk were shot at 50 yards. The norm for most SKS rifle I have owned and others that i have seen shoot. 8 - 9" groups @ 100 yards with military ammo. Perhaps 6" with handloads.
All capable of Minute of Water Buffalo @ 100yards.

6 inches with handloads!? I can shoot just as well with milsurp ammo! I know I'm not the only one.

Even if a grouping is 1 inch at 50 yards, it will still be 2 inches at 100 yards. That's pretty impressive for a tough as nails and dirt cheap semi-auto.

I've got one of the earlier chicom military SKS's and it shoots great. Knock the pigs over about every second shot at rosebud (500m), would knock more over but often the hit is not enough to push the pig over.

I was wondering about those. Would anyone get really mad at you if they saw you shooting steel cored surplus at those targets?

I guess I am quite fortunate having 3 iron-sighted Russkies that can, or have grouped consistently, 4 - 5 inches at 100 meters with surplus corrosive, with my lousy old eyes.

It must have been even more fortunate to actually witness three gentlemen hit a 10 x 10 inch gong at 200 meters at least 10 out of 20 times, under time pressure, with their cheap SKS.

The biggest problem at shooting 200m is just seeing the darned grey-colored gong against the berm. If the gongs were painted white, I'd speculate 15 - 18 hits out of 20 for a good operator.

I have personally shot a 5" x 8" 200m 5-shot group on a white letter size sheet of paper on a bright day. That was my first try on a white sheet at that distance.

easyrider604 But if you scope the sks you can do better. Remember the first gong shoot we had. There was a tie for 14 out of 20. One iron sight yugo and one scoped sks. Then there was a shoot of and the yugo got 2 out of 5 while the scoped got 4 out of five. Damm those gong shoot's were so much fun! 3 to 4 moa is about the norm for and sks with 5 shot group's & surplus. But as far as some one claiming a sks is able to get 1 to 2 moa...
Well letz just say that I have a pet uni-corn along with flying pig's.

i say if you want a rifle that shoots well at long range...... dont buy the first chinese sub 300 dollar rifle you can get your meat paws on. nothing against sks's a fine rifle they are........

WHATTTTT you only shot 200 rds in 3 trips to the range??? what is it that you do there I will fire 200-400 rounds in one sitting

200-400rnds a session x2 trips to the range a month 12 months... 4800rnds of full metal jacket ammo minimum a year? and im sure you all let your barrel cool between every shot  and of course the rifle had a new barrel on it when you bought it so you know its never been abused :D

what is expected barrel life on a SKS rifle? should be the next post in this forum... hahahaha

the OP fired 30K through his 858 in 7 months. I believe an SKS barrel is at least as good as a CZ barrel. Accuracy after 30K should be investigated further. The chrome-lined SKS barrel has a very good life-span due to the long-wearing characteristics of hard-chrome, apart from its better corrosion resistance compared to ordnance steel.
