my buddy bought Chinese sks with the black ATI stock from the local dealer. He hated the stock so he put it in an old russian stock he got for free.
we took it to the range, set up his target at 50 yards to dial in the sites. pulled the trigger and got a bullseye 1st shot LOL.
You gotta be kidding me,...I have never had that kind of luck. he then hit a 6inch target at 100 yards.
he then took it out to 300 yards and slammed the large "boar" target down.
Thats impressive. Usually the sks rifles I bought were not even close to this, and spent a 1/2 an hour sighting them in.
any one else have this kinda good luck ?
he was using the red box norinco ammo.
 
Were your rifles Russian or Chinese?
The general consensus is that the Chinese ones are more accurate then the Russian ones
I never liked the wood that the Chinese used in their rifles so your buddy has the best of both worlds
Years ago I bought an sks from Wanstalls when they had a sale on them
The one I got was a basket case, not one number was matching on it and the stock on it looked like bubba took to it with a belt sander
It had a laminated upper wood/gas tube so I bought a used laminated stock for it and that was the best shooting sks I ever had too

his is a china model. nice looking. like new. very nice trigger as well. he got lucky.
 
As expected accuracy. The Chinese rifles are new manufacture with the intention to send them out for the retail market, Unused surplus moved to export. They should be just as accurate as any other Chinese/Turkish rifle you buy on the shelf today
The Russians are surplus that have been used and abused, the put in storage for years before moving to export, primarily to move inventory, clear out warehouse space.
 
Most of the aftermarket polymer stocks don’t have the steel lug forward of the magazine that the receiver rests on, that comes with all factory wood stocks.

Take a look and compare them if you can.

Thats a big reason ‘modded’ SKS’s are usually terrible accuracy wise, the receiver is just clamped into the polymer stock with the trigger guard and no forward support. I modded an old Tapco stock with a steel cross bar and it shoots pretty well.
 
I'll just put it out there that some sks buyers are newbies and either don't at all or fail at sighting it in. They are happy to blast target and only hit some of them (shooting offhand of course), perhaps giving the sks a reputation as being inaccurate but still lots of fun.
One friend of mine (a new shooter) thought he and his brother had his chinese sks sighted in, and had the range elevator at max height. Well it sure was not sighted in. I set it to the regular position and it indeed was much more "accurate" after that, even shooting to 100 yards.
 
I bought a russian sks about 10 years ago and it had issues.
at 25 yards it was 8 inches high and and about 11 inches right.
I had the front post drifted to the max to get zero. It looked ridiculous, lol
at 100 yards it had over a 20inch spread. 3 , 6 , 9 and 12 o'clock. worn right out.
I couldnt believe what I was seeing. I did the bullet drop test in the front of the barrel ,...it went in right to the casing.
that was the last russian I ever bought.
I sold it on the EE as a "project' for $65.oo
