SKS Accurizing

On the 305, the first step in tuning is checking barrel index. Done and perfect.
2nd is to replace spring guide and spring. Any alternatives out there for sks?.
Very 1st step on a 305 is checkin headspace!!
4th is replacing sights for nm.
5th is bedding the receiver, Which of the available stocks are the best for bedding without breaking the bank?.( I expect to be doing some custom machining and as I ain't one, any discretionary funds are gonna go in this direction.
Probably gonna drill another retaining pin in receiver.
What do you boy's feel about a accustrut clone. Couldn't hurt right?.
Cheers C.C.

The first step is to get rid of the original mil spec barrel and install ...properly, a quality match barrel and chamber.

It's my time and my wife's money:cheers:. ANOTHER THOUGHT, m14.CA. makes a oprod guide, i wonder if I could reverse it to help keep everything in alignment and help reduce flex?.
if it doesn't work, I can use it on my 305, win-win.
As I understand it the nylon buffer insert for bolt recoil and preservation doesn't really work. FF's and stovepipes ect., so bolt spring and piston are area's I'm gonna look into further. If anyne knows any info about potential replacements of "higher quality", I would appreciate hearing from you.

f you really want to take this on you are going to need a decent lathe , properly setup ..... this will actually save you money in the long run .

then do what mystic mentioned , get a proper barrel .

I would not use the gas system at all , instead turn it into a manually operated action ( which means not installing a gas block or drilling the barrel for the gas port . )

if the barrel was pinned , i'd figure out how to thread the receiver .

i'd use this setup to play around with until I found a combination that was printing tight groups ...... then I would look into playing around with the gas system

Now that's a idea Jerry. Let's build 2 simultaneously.
The first with me bubba-ing, bolting and filing and welding.
2nd with all stock parts, cept the barrel.
I was also considering welding 2 90 deg pins onto the dust cover so they would slide into grooves machined into the reciever, so I could mount a flush short picatinny rail. Recoil forces are a issue.

Good to hear from you Rob M.. I think I would like to have a wobbley pop with you one day

The proper barrel thing is here: ht tp://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2015/07/10/1moa-sks/

It would be interesting to see if some kind of harmonic adjuster or barrel clamp would help a stock SKS, like some Mini-14s. You would probably need good ammo to tell the difference.

B. Servo;
What if I was to have a valve for the gas system. Manual until groupings are the best I can wring out of off the shelf.
Seen the unit G.G&F.B. picked up. In the future maybe. Gonna have to think how I can turn my router into a lathe, Hahahahaha.

take a set of calipers and start measuring things .....

one thing you will notice is that a heavy diameter barrel is going to be interfering with the gas system . changing the gas system from a piston to a pure gas system ( like a ag42) would get round this , but would also require time to figure it out . it would also have fewer moving parts and much less vibration than the stock system .

the other thing with the gas system , just by having it attached , it s going to mess up the harmonics of the barrel .

Years ago someone posted their project, they fitted a 303 Enfield barrel and did a few other mods.
He claimed excellent accuracy and it looked cool.
When asked to make another or sell his the answer was no and he estimated the cost at about 3 grand...
