I hate commie guns...BUT that is a very very nice job! I am in complete awe and appreciation of the dedication you boys have. I truly wish you/us all a review of the silly laws that prevent us from owning and operating the guns of our choice.

* I haven't drilled and tapped anything in my receiver but the plan is to put four machine screws spaced evenly along the top of the "lower receiver" to add strength. Currently the only thing holding it on is the two 1/2" screws on the bottom front and back.

I'm thinking about it. I was tossing around the idea of Krinking the gasblock, cutting the barrel to 18.5" and putting on a fake suppressor. Might as well throw more money at it.KevinB said:

Prolly a dumb question...but...is it legal to convert an SKS to take detachable mags?

100% legal to convert to take detach mags provided you follow the silly 5 round rule for plugging them! I read instructions years ago on converting a fixed mag SKS to take AK mags, looks like quite a bit of work so if you have some machining skill and a lot of extra time have at her!
Enlarging the receiver's magwell and milling out the mag catch cavity is not a big deal , any machinist can do it. Converting the trigger group is quite complicated , some serious TIG microwelding involved. As the matter of fact the trigger groups on models D were all factory converted from the standard ones , you can tell by the crude weld marks and usually unsuccesful attempts to cover them up by grinding.DAR 701 said:

The full-auto AK's use a safety sear/auto sear that locks the hammer into place until the bolt is all the way closed, then it releases the hammer to fire. This of course is not an option for Armedsask as the government frowns on full auto. The semi auto AK trigger group does have a disconnector with a short tail that can not be held down by the safety/selector. The AK47 also has a tail on the bolt carrier that helps prevent out of battery firing, the tail blocks the hammer until the bolt is very nearly closed. Between the disconnector and the tail on the bolt carrier it would make it nearly impossible to fire out of battery.
