I was able to acquire 21 SKS ammo pouches and outfit my son's entire scouting troup! I made 21 scouts very happy today, and some of them come from disadvantaged backgrounds, so it was like Christmas Day.

They will be using their pouches for their monthly camping trips and hiking trips.

I am thinking of adding an item to each of their pouches every other month... like a small compass, small swiss army knife, small flashlight, etc.

Just a not-so-typical post. Cheers.

I'm sure I have that many, just don't want to say where they came from :)

They also make a great pouch for holding .22 ammo when you're out gopher shooting. They hold several hundred rounds.

I've got a crap load of those pouch's too - my son is only about 3 years old so maybe I'll hold onto them for now and do something similar in the future for him.

Did you tell the kids they used to be ammo pouch's or no?

I also have alot of Mosin nagant, SVT40, VZ24, K98, and SKS pouches, there should be a charity set up for things like this.

where did you get the pouches, my guy just joined beavers and the troop does seem a bit underkitted. he`ll be in scouts next year.

I got them from a local seller (they don't want to be identified) that often sell SKS's (that they usually drop into plastic ATI stocks) to buyers that don't want the "kit", or even the original wood stocks and bayonets for that matter. So they cut me a great deal. He even gave me a nice spare stock! Great people.

I just referred to them as "utility pouches" that can be used for a "multitude of purposes". I did tell them they were Soviet military issue, made in the early to mid 1950's. I wore mine and showed them how I carry my car keys, wallet, pen, etc. My son also wore his, and showed them how it stored his pocket knive, compass/thermometer, bandaids, mini-mag light, etc. They were all impressed. :)

That is a very nice thing you did. If anyone's looking to do the same and can't get them in bulk like that, I have a couple to spare.

What a great idea, the kids would have loved them and will remember this small gift for a good portion of their lives. I've seen these pouches as low as $1 per and they are quite handy (although they smell like something the Russian army would have issued in the '50's:p)

Tip for the kids: A bounce sheet in the pouch will not only eliminate the "stank" of Ivan's ammo pouch, it is also a mosquito deterrent for those "deep woods" orientation trips.

This post came just in time.

I have probably 20+ sks stripper clip pouches in my garage that I have no idea what to do with.

I am willing to donate them all to scouts/beavers/etc all I ask is that the recipient cover shipping costs.

If anyone would like them PM me.

Great idea using these pouches with Scouts!

As Kurgan said, last time i got an SKS we picked up a few for some friends who were interested in them as well, kind of a group buy, they basically told me to take as many pouches as we could carry, that most people either don't want them, don't take them, or just want 1 for show, so over the years they have boxes of them left over. If you just went in to a dealer that normally sells them i'm sure they have a pile of them somewhere.
