hey guys, i was told that you get rip out ur 5/10 rds sks internal mag and use an AK mags instead. is that true? and how would i about to do that?

thanks for the help!

Not exactly true... There are special detachable mags for the regular SKS (Tapco makes such mags) but they do not fit any other rifle that use AK mags. There is a chinese made version of the SKS that uses AK mags (the SKS-D) but that rifle is no longer made... Poeple have converted regular SKS's so they could accept AK mags but it is not easy or cheap...

the D model has a groove cut in the reciever, creating a lip to catch the AK mag, the stock is also wider around the mag well. An AK mag will not fit in the inletting for the florrplate on a type 45/56 SKS without removing material. The D also has an AK mag release on the trigger group. Duckbill mags are thinner, and with that mag adaptor you can cut most of the duckbill off so they fit in a standard mag pouch and lock in/out easier.

Won't work.

Do a google search for "sks mag adaptor". There a few patterns available online, you can either try and buy them, or simply make your own. When that's done, you can modify just about any duckbill mag to fit, but the Tapco ones are popular.

Youtube and Google are your friends.

P.S.: Stay away from cheap and stupid mods.

just get an sks d or m and be done with it, unless its a d or m, it will not feed or function right by trying to mod it to accept ak magazines! hell i am an american where i can still (until the asshats change it) own ak-47's, but i do have one sks type d, that shoots as good, of not a little better than my ak's! just as fast with mag changes, has a little bit better range and accuracy with even the iron sights, and is just as tough if not tougher than the ak's! mine was a pre 1994 rifle and came in with the underfolding bayonet(wich i still have but promptly removed and installed a bipod), and the only thing i have done to it is threaded it and installed a FAL rifle flashhider( looks so bad ass with it on) i found out that in order to use my ak drum magazines, i either had to inlet the stock so they could fit, or by a new stock! well i hate to do anything to stocks, so i bought another type d stock that was identical to mine except the numbers, and i inleted that one for drum use! its like a poor mans S.A.W. lol!!!

im kinda wanting to call BS on this since the mag latch on a regualr type 45/ type 56 sks would not even be anywhere near the location of the latch tab on an ak magazine, not to mention if you do indeed have it feeding through ak magazines, how do you manage the front lip on the mag to indeed lock up on this said sks??? or in american parlence pretend i am from missouri and show me!

Why would you add this and not explain to the OP how you achieved this.
I achieved this by purchasing the rifle, ""SKS 7.62x39MM MADE IN CHINA BY XZ"".
Although, I did purchase a spare mag latch , drilled a hole in it and inserted an allen key extension. I can release the mag with trigger finger as I reach for the reload, whacking the old mag out with the fresh one into the zombies face.

MC-5D was usually a 16" barrel. "Kick out the jams", otherwise the same as mine:

Juster. I think you and I are the only two on the board who got your MC5 reference.

I love the SKS-Ds. The AK-47 mag gives them a great look and my collection of them is starting to grow....

I'v got a 40 round promag that works great in my sks. The only reason I'd think about doing the mod to fit ak mags is so that I could use the ak drum mags in it since sks drum mags are hard to come by.

A drum mag for 5 rounds?? Maybe your not in Canada. I'm trying to trade an SKS Tapco 5/20 for an SVT mag on the EE. I personally like the trapdoor mag on the SKS.
