SKS and lar-15 mags? Can it be done?

Yes to both. Significant modification to the rifle is required but apparently nothing that can't be accomplished with some basic power tools and ingenuity. There's YouTube test fire videos by a board member who tried this successfully. Someone should be able to resurrect the thread (which I believe got locked due to repeated hijacks by ignorant trolls).

It's worth mentioning that you CANNOT modify the magazine in any way in order to remain legal. All modifications must be done to the firearm only.

Wrong caliber. If you're looking at bringing her back to factory capacity, XCR mags can be made to work. My project stalled out but I finally received an AR mag catch (that will work on an XCR mag) just to do a bit of an improvement on mdmaroon's EXCELLENT pioneer work, but I will post a writeup soon.

The mags in question aren't LAR-15 mags. They're XCR-L mags.

Same concept but yes, I see your point.

FWIW a LAR mag will load and feed 7.62x39, just not ten rounds of it.

I recently bought a XCR-L mag (LAR-15 pistol in 7.62x39) and I'm planning on doing this modification.

I'am planning on doing some milling on the SKS to aloud the mag to sit high enough (the top shape of the magazine is square compare to the Tapco one which has a different shape.

I'll do the "super drop free bolt" modification and there I am going to remove a little of wood from the stock.

Now that I know other folks did it, I'm happy to that I'm not the first one the walk this trail. Somehow, the only video I can find on youtube are the one from clickclickbangbang and it seems to be non detachable. I would be curious to see he did it...

I would like to see pictures and had some overall impression of the final product.

Thank you

Looks like there's a few of us in the running....

I already milled the receiver to seat the XCR-L mag, i'm in the process of making the adapter. They way i have it setup from testing, it will still retain the last shot bolt open function.

Its not my first go around at making an adapter to fit an AR-15 style mag...This one should be somewhat faster.

check this video out.

I dunno about that. My LAR15 mag wouldnt hold the ammo correctly. The profile of the 7.62 vs the 223 is much more tapered. The lips and the follower are different.
