I've lubed up mine with whatever I have handy. Including the gas parts.
Never had any problems.
But when you are using corrosive ammo you get to clean a lot.
When I tear down my SVTS and SKS in the past I sprayed the metal parts with Rem oil or the equivalent then prior to reassembly just wiped it down with a rag lightly. Seemed to work so far. They function well and for long storage a quick spray spray of synthetic near the action then manual cycle the bolt a bit. It I won't be using the gun in a long longtime a quick synthetic down the barrel can't hurt, just run a patch before use.
These rifles are survivors just don't use bleech or urine they cause odor and rust lol
On my SVT-40 I use a little G96 grease in a few areas of the receiver and bolt but outside of that not much. When I owned an SKS-45 it was about the same.
I've always put a bit of wheel bearing grease on the various sliding and locking parts on the bolt/ bolt carrier. The colder it is out, the lighter I grease it. The firing pin, inside the bolt, I only put light oil on.
If they are being shot regularly I just lightly oil after cleaning, if they're going to sit in the safe for a while I keep them oiled heavily. Grease only see's my pistols slide rails.
Grease isn't necessary but some us like to use it in certain parts. If you use it I would suggest using only a tiny tiny amount with oil over top. The down side of grease is it is often so thick it will actually resist against the movement of the parts thats why just a tiny bit and work it in with oil. Another down side is that this will attract dirt and grit as will excess oil.
