SKS and VZ 58 zeroing - same diff?

Hey all - I am looking for suggestions on zeroing both the sks and vz 58. Should I put them on "U" and shoot the 25 meter target to get her dialed? And if I do that and then set the sights to "1" should I be expecting to compensate for them shooting high? I asked because I have been playing around with different settings / distances recently and am not super pleased with the results. Thanks in advance.

My understanding is that the "U" setting is the battle setting which produces high POI at all close ranges out to 300m.
As a compromise, I have been setting the sights at "1" (100m) and shoot the 50m target until I have a slightly high POI
while making adjustment at the front sight. This eventually produces, for me, good POI at 100m and all other settings.

Looking forwards to reading your opinions of VZ58 compared to SKS.

Thanks Rob - will try that configuration. One thing that is obvious already is the weight loss - the sks is a perogie wrapped in a bubushka (sp?) and the VZ is a robust crepe. Using snapcaps, I love the affirmative short snap close of the VZ. The box says not to baby it forward and its 100% correct. Must have rounds in the mag to close the bolt from open unless you depress the follower on the sks or a small button near the safety on the VZ. Also like that the VZ lacks a tube in the handguard for the gas piston. Way easier to clean as you have one less tube to scrub. Will post results soon.

The U is like Rob said. The universal battle sight. Some Chinese SKS don't have a 300 meter setting because the U is for 300 meters. I sight in my SKS and Vz 58 with the 100 meter setting at 100 meters so that a 10 shot 4" group is in the center of the paper.

So you zero at the "1" setting at 100m ?

What does it give you at 25m and 50m for POI ?

honestly i have no idea what it gives me at 25/50, i only shoot clays with it around 50 or large size targets on the move. I don't see a point in zeroing a rifle under 100 because at that point your target is roughly 6 feet high and 2 feet wide.

Chances are if you start at 25 m with the sight on 100m your POI might be close your POA as the bullets trajectory is angled upwards and should be crossing your sight line. Not sure at what point the arc will be the highest but I understand somewhere around 50-75m. If you at least start at 25 you can be on paper and you can make small windage adjustments. If what I am saying is confusing to you , you need to look up trajectory of a bullet with reference to your sight line. The bullet will actually pass your sight line twice, once on its way up and the second time when it impacts the target.

I wouldn't make any real changes, except of windage, until you reach the 100m mark. Now IF your 25m POI is way out there you can make adjustments to make the POI and POA close and don't make elevation adjustments when at the 50-75m as they will or should be higher than your POA.

Watched a few videos on this. Seems to be the AK and SKS they tell you to zero at 25 yards on the "1" setting. Then switch to battle setting up to 300 yards. Gives you 'minute of man' accuracy. Not sure of the VZ....
