SKS arrived!

Please guy's take some advise from some one who has this happened to before.
BE CAREFUL TO NOT USE THE MURRAY SPRING FIRING PIN WITH EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF SURPLUS AMMO!
The spring can jam due to the hard primers and lacquer covered ammo causing slam fire's then once it start's piercing the primer pockets take well let's just say it start's getting hairy. The Murray Spring Firing Pin is meant for soft primers, reloaded ammo & new manufactured brass cased North American ammo.

already through 180 rnds since I got the SKS :D I really should order some more soon lol
 
Got my SKS yesterday from Marstar. They must have banged up the stock when they took them apart in China cause it's scratched and dented. I'm going to sand down the stock and refinish it with a camo paint job in the summer. I had a difficult time putting the trigger unit back in after cleaning it. Everything fits really tight because the stock is saturated with cosmoline even after using heat from the paint stripper gun to bleed it out. No ammo yet so I'll post my results once I get shooting.

did you slam the trigger group in? i usually cant just push it in , i usually have it upside down (without top cover) and holding it with my left and with my right palm slam the trigger group in.
 
I put in upside down on my lap and just squeeze gradually until it clicks. Gonna pick up one of these chinese ones for my bday next month to go with the russie.
 
I got the trigger group in but I had to sit the rifle upside down on a cardboard on top of my workbench and use a hammer and flat punch. It was really hard to to push in the button with a screwdriver to remove it in the first place. I wish they had some new russian models instead of refurbished. I would have spent the extra and bought one of those.

hammer ? i never had to use a hammer , ok , im assume your safety is on when you are removing/installing the trigger group.
 
I followed the instructions in the manual I have which are the same as the instructions in the videos I looked at on You tube. The stock is in bad shape compare to the pics from kilo69

wow! thanks for the heads up. IMHO once the cosmoline has been thoroughly cleaned slam-fires are virtually a non issue with factory firing pins but I never knew that there can be trouble with some aftermarket ones. strange.

Actually I am still holding out hope for chromed firing pin's. Now that would be the catz @$$!
 
I found seating the reciever as far as it goes in the stock, then putting the palm of my hand on the trigger guard and pushing in and forward helps pop the trigger group in really easily. I must have phoned just after Marstar closed today, I'll have to order mine tomorrow. I had a factory 306 that I sold because it was too nice to mod...I need another chinese military SKS, I like them alot better than the Russians. The wood on mine had a rough grain that I didnt like but I think Ive got a solution for that ;)
 
well I geuss its more of a personal preference thing, which is what the build will focus around. I plan to strip the finish, sand it smooth and rub in some BLO, then polish. I'll be going through the rifle and changing the little things I dont like while adding as few parts as possible, taking it from an as-issued military rifle to something a little nicer.
