would an SKS make a good yote gun?
It is cheap on ammo and you can put better stock on it to make it lighter.
Would it still be accurate enough at say 100 to 200 yards?:sniper:

In wooded country an SKS should work just fine. Certainly to 100 meters no problem, at which I can consistently hit shooting offhand

At the range I regularly shoot at a 200m gong with mine, but it's a good sized gong, usually shot at from a shooting table/bench. The last time I tried firing from a field sitting position at 200m targets, I only managed about half of my shots on the paper.

That said, if you have the opportunity to regularly practice with at that range (which is reasonably affordable and possible with an SKS), I think that one could probably get good enough to use it up to 200m.

Good Luck,

Frank

If I put a different stock and a Tripod would it shoot better? or is it more to do with the barrel and ammo?

Assuming you'll be using soft points for hunting, ammo isn't all that cheap.
The rifle isn't heavy to start with.
Changing stocks would be a 'your mileage may very' thing. Unless you bed it and that kind of stuff.
A bipod would definitly help the shooter out, rifle doesn't care it there's a bipod on it or not.

Around here there's a calibre restriction on yotes. So 30cal is out of the question right away.
As a cheap yote gun, I'd go with a stevens 200.
