Just picked one up using my CT rewards. The manager allowed me to come into the back to hand pick my rifle from the safe of SKSs.

The ones I looked at were in good-excellent condition, all refurbs (black bayo). I snagged an all-matching serial 1951 Tula with a new-looking bore. They are selling for $199 and not $219 that I have seen other CTs sell them for.

Also, they are selling the SKS crate $150 (You'll have to ask about that though) - ask for Richard.

One more thing: the manager wants to bring in surplus ammo but doesn't know how or where to source it. If anyone knows a thing or two about the industry we can help get surplus ammo in the aisles of another CT.

Funny seeing my local CT mentioned, pretty cool! But yea I have seen them there and was curious as to whether they would let you look at the rest of their stock. You just answered that though thank you! The price of the crate though is outrageous, most shops give em away for free or like ten bucks or something. $150 bucks could almost net you an SKS itself! I hope they bring in surplus ammo, that would be awesome! If they stock it for prices competitive to online then they will sell lots! I know ill be in there all the time since Owen Sound is a quick drive away!

Jager,
Is the black bayonet how to tell if you have a refurb? I just got mine yesterday on the Wet coast for $199, 1952 Tula, matching numbers, clean barrel but it has the steel coloured bayo. Is mine a non issue? Or do you know?

I saw the one at that ct as well, but usually anything firearm related at that store I get blank looks and head scratching
Decent prices if you know what you are looking for.
Lake Huron rod and gun has them for 179 and has corrosive and non corrosive ammo for good deals too

The black bayo and parked bayo is refurb. The shiny steel is original however to know if unissued or more likely unrefurb we would need detailed pics of the whole gun to evaluate. Many factors must be looked at to evaluate it...

I wish that the CT in Vernon BC would sell them, they don't carry firearms at ALL. they sell ammo ,pellet gun's , airsoft guns and paintball gun's but that's it.

Is the bore in the '51 chrome-lined, or a regular bore?

They changed part way through 51 from unlined to chrome lined. Some earlier ones can have chrome lined if they were refurbed and the barrel replaced with a new chrome one. Only way to be sure is look at the muzzle and bore.

Tell him to call the manager of the fredericton ctc's he brings in surplus guns and ammo, lots of it!

Lake Huron Rod and Gun is actually the place I got my first rifle which was an SKS! I never knew they had surplus ammo though! Do you know what their prices are like?

I understand what you are saying, however in this case ctc has been selling guns for decades and are individually owned and operated. It is at the discretion of the Managers to bring in firearms and ammo, like some in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. If we support these guys then other ctc's will also bring them in. Some stores in Halifax will start selling Firearms in 2014, competition is healthy for the industry and lower prices will help get more folks into the sport! Yes I do support our sponsors and local gun shops but have to watch my dollars so only buy when the price is reasonable! CTC buys their ammo and firearms from some of our sponsors so the money gets to them one way or another!
Cheers and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

However, buying guns from places such as Canadian tire may encourage other general retail outlets to carry firearms, increasing the exposure of regular citizens to them and helping to nominalize firearm ownership.

Exactly, ctc is woven into the Canadian fiber, and if people just walk by the guns and ammo in this store, subconsciously they think it must be ok and (normal) if you can buy them at every ctc! Exposure! It will help re normalize the long gun to Canada the way it was!
