Has anyone purchased the SKS for $195 at Lever Arms in Van?

Is it Chinese or Yugo?

It seems to be the cheapest price around but is it more inferior to the others available? I have found the Ammo as low as $115 per crate in Abbotsford so it is a cheap gun to run. I have also seen some nifty mods done to them on this site. Is there a place where info can be found on modifications and after market products?

Thanks

$115

Yeah, I went into a local store and the guy showed me his SKS in stock, he wanted 300 for the chinese sks and 500 for the Yugo. I knew I could get it cheaper elsewhere, but he said the ammo was $115 for i think 1120 rounds. I am not sure if Czech or not. I will find out on monday and repost.

So is the chinese sks a piece of S&%t, or is it about the same as any other?

195$$$ Are you sure?

here is an email i got from leverarms on feb 28 2006

"These SKS are made in China with threaded barrel, surplus made in the late 50s-60s, does not look like been used, they been in storage since out of factory.
Price $149.00 each, plus handeling & shipping plus TAX. H&S to Montreal $30.00 each.
"

they used to be $135 in the fall. Good cheap fun. I bought two! Ask the clerk to make sure you get one with the barrel seated right. Check the old SKS threads re this problem. I got a lemon the second time and Lever was pretty good about exchanging it. But CAVEAT EMPTOR(buyer beware). Don't pay over 150 for a lever chinese. They are made up of parts ( no matching numbers) with a shorter barrel (18.5" compared to 20.5")

Where did you see ammo for 115? Got an address?

Do you know if the SKS that are sold at lever arms are NIB/unfired?

They sure are! With chrome barrels, sling and cleaning kit.No bayo, (barrel too short) By the way, these aren't the Norinco SKS's. I made the mistake of choosing one for the wood. Bad mistake. Try the trigger. ( some are really fk'd up). Make sure you cant see the op rod spring thru the housing(sign of unseated barrel)Search the old SKS posts cause I went on exhaustively about my problems
Where is the cheap ammo?

I'm out here in Sask so I couldn't check the trigger. Mine was messed up. I was about to call them, but I figured I'd take a look at it myself. The hammer was striking on the underside of the bolt. This caused the gun to go click(the loudest sound in the world)when it shouldve gone bang. Some stone work and she was flying.

My chinese came with a different coloured wood on the gas tube, chrome lined barrel and loves cheap ammo.

So, what would be the best SKS to buy with minimal problems?

The Chinese or the Yugo?

Yugo is way better quality but there is the internal rust issue when firing corrosive 7.62x39mm ammo...

I bought a chinese sks from lever for $139 almost a year ago. Its been fine and for that price everybody should have one. It has the shortened barrel. I put a spike bayonet on it, I just had to cut off the last 2 inches off the bayo and resharpen it. It fits just fine. Lever has a new shipment in now though, they might actually be the longer barreled versions but I don't know for sure. Check into that.
Here's a pic of my sks. I refinished the stock btw.

Your Norc sure turned out nicely!! Good job.

I just talked to Lever and ordered a SKS rifle. They are the 20" barreled, threaded barrel ex-military rifles from the 1960's. Not mismatched parts guns. For 149 bucks I ordered one, its going to be fed all this Czech ammo I have that I can not bring myself to use in the Yugo M59/66.

DH79: That stock looks amazing!

Dh79, really nice job on that stock!!!

I am looking for a SKS that wont cause me alot of problems once I ahve bought it. Any comments?
