SKS at Lever Arms

You were right about the lower price on the sks. I had a different number in my head at post time. At Canadian Firearms on Clearbrook road in Abbotsford BC the guy behind the desk quoted me $115 for the box of ammo.
I didnt get into it with him but im assuming its corrosive 7.62. The price is too cheap otherwise. I will go back there on Monday and get more details so if any one wants to keep in the loop pm me. I will give a price post on monday.

Did they say if they have the bayonet or not?
 
i bought one at lever 2 years ago, new unfired, D model, did not come with a bayonet assembly or the mounting flanges.
 
The sks I bought at lever did not have the bayonet but it did have the bayonet lug. It did have the sling and all the cleaning accessories. I don't know if the new ones they have there have the bayos or not.
I bought my bayonet on ebay for something like $5. They're cheap and plentiful.

I was there today.

All are 20.5" with spike bayonet. They are threaded barrels and appear to be mostly new(ish) parts guns from the 60's. My receiver seems unfired.

However, none of the numbers match. Mine is made up of two differing serial #'s (unissued receiver + parts from another used rifle, all matching).


On a separate note, they had the "last" CZ-858 on the rack. More on order, didn't know when they would arrive. Are we seeing the 858's dry up???? Most people seem out.
 
Well, if they are the 20.5'', this shipment won't be the 040###x or whatever that ####ty batch was. Those could be the norinco which is actually a real sks, non military for the civi. market. The shorter ones don't come with a bayonet. That is still a good price. I paid more for mine, but they match nos. As soon as you leave the chinese variety, you loose the chrome barrel. All you ever shoot is corrosive ammo. But every rifle, with no concern to origin, has to be stripped down. The barrel may not rust, but everything else will! These are good guns and a lot of fun. Serious ammo and cheap. Get one then another. They're like potato chips.

In reference to an earlier post, the only SKS not equipped with a chromed barrel (none have chromed chambers, btw) are those of Russian production from 1949 to circa mid 1951 and the Yugoslavians.

Are all the new Lever batch mismatched parts guns?
 
We got in a large shipment of the current SKS's from Lever and have noted the following. The markings indicate these are actual Chinese military rifles. Most barrels are threaded but some are pinned on (note these are not the ones that had undersized pins and had the barrels pull out of the action). Many wooden gas covers appeared mismatched in color from main stocks (we had several wooden gas covers and replaced them to match as good as possible). Some of the guns had matching parts serial #'s to the receiver but many were not however this does not seem to effect the fit or performance. The guns all came with spike bayonets. The overal condition of these guns appear as good as anything we have seen recently.
 
When you buy a SKS, can you take it out of the box, clean it up a little then take it to the range and not have any problems?
 
Well, I would say you have to clean it a lot! Mix up some Eds Red stuff and when you get the rifle home, strip it right down and soak the smaller pieces in Eds. Take the firing pin out of the bolt for sure. Failure to do this simple chore can make you the talk of the range. Then attack the barrel with lots of patches til they come out clean. Clean the chamber, gas port, gas piston assembly and op rod extension housing. The idea is to get all the packing grease out of it. It can be everywhere. Mind you the ones from Lever aren't that bad, but I take every mil surp right down once I have figured out how to do it(that's half the fun!) and the SKS is pretty simple. Again check the old threads for all the links you need for info. And I think the chinese type is the ONLY one to have a chromed barrel

The guy at cfi in Abby said today that the price on the case lot was $150 not $115. His prices on the sks' are double than that of lever arms for chinese and yugo respectivley. Im sure he told me $115 last week but now its $150. Im going in to Van to Lever.
