SKS at the range

The difference between us is that almost all the things you consider make the model 58 superior I regard as being trivial and childish.

Better accuracy and detachable mags are far from childish lol.

I love my SKS AND I loved my VZ58. They each have their uses- but the VZ would win if a shtf moment presented itself and I had to choose.

You missed the almost.

Wow, Vicar got banned? What happened there?

Either way. Proud owner of a couple SKS rifles and hope I can continue blasting away with them later on. Haven't done much modification besides a red dot mount for the rear sight block with a TRS-25 on my BBQ paint refurb. Never had terrible accuracy issues, and i've always wanted to try mounting a mosin PU scope on one.

I made the connection to his name thru posts he made on facebook. But the fact that the utube channel was actually him went right over my head lol.

At least he was a relatively well mannered troll.

i recognized his mo, he likes being in the limelight, he likes pushing peoples buttons.

i recall one time mick posted a vid of himself test firing his not approved sten in his backyard, lol. that got him banned pretty quick.
shortly after that, he returned several times so im sure he will be back. i just hope he didnt scammed some guy here out of $1700 on his LMG yesterday on ee.

From the sticky...

I have a Norinco SKS I bought for $99 about 40 years ago. I recall a case of Norinco non-corrosive at the same time for another $99.

I have a number of SKS rifles, but this is my "shooter". I put a peep sight on it to help my old eyes.

I shot it today off a bench at 50 yards. Then sight picture was good.

I had 3 different flavours of milsurp ammo to shoot.

Tula - Russian copper wash case

Romanian - with the red stripe

Yugo - Brass case and lead core bullet

I know from past experience that the Yugo does not shoot well. I use it to pull the bulelts, dump the powder and then reload with a new powder charge and a good hunting bullet.

First I fired 5 of each. Each hit the target ok, so I repeated the test with 10 shots of each ammo. 10 shots is a more realistic test.

10 shot group size at 50 yards

Tula - 3.7"

Romanian - 2.9"

Yugo - 5.0"

Was there a bunch of high tech wizardry involved with lining up that rear site or did you just sorta eyeball it?? Nice shooting BTW, was the Yugo your own recipe you mentioned or factory??

The Yugo ammo is factory. It looks nice. brass case and lead core bullet. But not accurate. I use if for non-accuracy applications.

The peep sight was easy. I zeroed the rifle using the issue open sight. Then looked thru the peep sight and noted the position that lined up with the open sight.

Then the open sight was removed and the rife was fine tuned by adjusting the front sight.

The peep is half of a lee Enfield L sight.
