SKS bayonet problems

Incredibly stupid question, but please forgive me.

I opened up the bayonet on my SKS, however now I can't figure how to get it off the barrel. It just seems stuck. I've read every owners manual I was able to find on the internet (which are all excellent) though I cant figure how to fold it again.

Perhaps there is a certain knack to doing it? My new rife is very stiff however. Stripping the thing was a nightmare!

Thanks in advance

Is it Russian? The bayonet is spring loaded. Grab it by the knurled section and pull out and forward in the direction of the barrel. It will come out about 1cm and disengage.
I've not used a Chinese one so unsure how they work. Likely the same way.

Lol... That's not typical. Yours might need a bit of polishing in the bayo ring.

^This....if no help this > I had one BBQ painted and it was sticky if a little clean up of the inner ring doesn't do it...
Try removing the screw for the bayo and giving a good clean of the inner parts, spring, and lug and the bayo chanel.

Had to do it to one of mine works great now.

Good luck

Ha! I had the exact same problem when I got my SKS. Opened the bayonet to take a look at it... and then could not get it off the barrel no matter what I did! I pulled on that thing so hard I though the barrel would stretch. I tried holding the stock with my feet so I could pull harder, and it still wouldn't budge.

Turned out that there was a bit of cosmoline gooped up around the muzzle, and when the locking ring slid over it, it decided it was never moving again.

Figured it out eventually, but it took me a bit. One this I was doing wrong was trying to pull on the bayonet itself, thinking the spring for mounting was connected to the mounting swivel (noob mistake; the swivel is just a hinge, the spring is on the ring, so that is the only part that moves when you're trying to get it off).

Eventually got it off by inserting a flat head screwdriver between the locking ring at the bayonet lug near the muzzle and then twisting the screwdriver to separate the ring from the lug. That moved it just enough to pull it off the rest of the way and finally fold the bayonet back up. I did not try mounting it again until I'd given the muzzle area a thorough cleaning to remove any remaining cosmoline.

Hope this experience from another SKS noob helps you get it unstuck.

Mine kept getting stuck to the point I had the unscrew it from the mount and bang it off. Used emery cloth to polish inside the ring to smooth it out and now it works great.

Sorted it out now. Looked as if it was stuck because of dry cosmoline or something.

Gun is fully cleaned and oiled, however the stock still has much cosmoline to come out. Not sure on the best way to do it without damaging the stock.

Stock has to be sweated out. Spring is coming, so leave it on newsprint on a sunny windowsill and give it an alcohol wipe every so often till you don't see any more cosmoline sweating out of the wood.
Reseal with boiled linseed oil.
