SKS bayonet removal and barrel harmonics

Someone was telling me that the removal of the bayonet will screw with barrel harmonics and accuracy.
Granted, the sks isn't known to be a tack driver but now I'm just curious. Can anyone confirm or deny this claim?

One rifle compared to another is indicative but definitely not enough to be conclusive.

When a bayonet is attached to any other service rifle the bullet impact normally drops from point of aim without the bayonet.

Just about guarantee more felt recoil without the bayonet and likely a rise in point of impact. Whether it will open or close groups will likely depend on individual rifle.

There is some justification to those that feel the added weight at the muzzle actually helps to control the rifle during rapid fire and even to help stabilize muzzle wander during aiming.

Yes, it will, but it's more important to make sure your stock is well mated. You can chop the barrel to different lengths for different results too, but you can remove the bayonet, front sight and use a barrel tuner.

Removing the bayonet made no difference in accuracy on either my Russian or Chinese models.
I did have to resight them in obviously.
The bayonets are a pointless added encumberence for a modern rifle.

learnin how to shoot the rifle properly i find is the biggest thing...trigger pull, steady aim, steady hand...sight in the iron sights...mine sits in an archangel stock, no bayo....and at 50-65 yards will put 15 rounds inside the palm of my hand 3 inch by 3 inch...with chinese surplus ammo.....when i first started shooting it, i was all over the place, now getting tight coherent groupings from it....:)

Anecdotal, but the accuracy didn't change at all on the 1 of my SKS's I removed the bayo from (I left the lug in place). I use it as a bush/deer gun and didn't want the extra weight. Group sizes didn't change in either direction.

Shimming the receiver to remove play in the stock, however, cut the group sizes in half.

I removed the bayonet on my SKS and my groups went from .5 MOA to .75 MOA. Not recommended!

.5 MOA? At what range are you getting these groups?

I love my SKS’s and think of them as accurate rifles but .5 MOA? That kind of accuracy makes me happy coming from a modern bolt gun. Not an old semi auto mil surp rifle. You sure bro?

And don’t tell me this is with iron sights unless these groups are at 10 yards. If you can see a difference of 1/4 MOA at 100 yards with iron sights then you should be making a very good living shooting competitively.
