When I was at the range there were a few sks shooters there and one guy was showing someone the bayonet. Not only un-hinging the lug by hand but awkwardly folding it out and manually pushing it up over the muzzle by hand...

It didn't take long for me to discover that after you unlock the lug you can just grasp the stock and give the barrel a good solid flick and the bayonet will snap up over the muzzle by itself. It's much quicker and easier... and feels pretty cool too. In case any of you still do it the hard way, you should try this just keep your hands out of the bayo cut under the stock because if you don't do it hard enough the bayo will bounce back and will whack your knuckles if they are in the way.

That explains why I thought they were automatic, I saw a guy do that at the range and thought there was a release button and they were spring loaded.

any way works, but the bayo handle has a notch in it to allow for a quick locking into place. You don't need to touch the handle again once you unlock it from the stored position, some force is all it needs.

the RCMP was at the school doing a presentation on gang weapons and they showed us one of those, is that even legal?"

The RCMP... obviously not an accurate source of info.

I think we've seen proof, time and time again, that not all LEOs are well informed on firearms and their various classifications and uses !!

I believe it's a case of "what's good for me is NOT good for you". Unfortunately many LEOs see many non-LEOs as potential threats and therefore paint us all with that brush.

Dont think they see you as a threat but definitely agree that most dont know a restricted from a non restricted!
But not their fault. Their departments are generally not training them on firearms identification. And when they do,,its minimal.
Btw I like that sks bayo technique,,,gotta try it tnite :)

A bayonet on a carbine or any battle rifle is there for decoration. And parades.
A gangbanger wouldn't be caught dead with an SKS. Too small. Maybe one of the chrome plated ones.

Too small or too big to conceal?
Not a choice weapon for gangsters as its too big,,,but in a bind and at the right price,,they will accept anything
Many Tapco and ATI SKS's equipped with bayos have been seized in gang and drug raids over the last few years in Canada.

Seems reasonable enough. You have a widely available, cheap semi auto rifle with cheap ass ammo to boot. Of course criminals are going to get some...

the sks was not designed to have the bayonet deployed in that fashion was it? if so... well i'll be damned!@ :p

l wouldn't want to hurt the barrel by doing something it wasn't designed to do. Thanks for posting the vid of it happening in action.
