I was into the local CT store the other day and noticed that the bayonets had been removed from all of the 20 or so SKS's they had in the case. When I asked the guy about it he said "orders from head office after the Moncton shootings"

Anyone noticed this in other CT's or other gun shops?

Hopefully they will come with the rifle, I can't see many guys buying them without one, unless there is a good discount.

The cleaning rod won't stay in if they remove the bayo. Or did they re-policy the cleaning rod to be considered a dangerous and offensive "assault rod"?

Why would anyone buy an incomplete SKS with parts purposely taken off?

Looks like the stupidity has already begun...where is the common sense in this? God help us if the Liberals or NDP come back to power because then the stupidity will really begin.

That's one stores idiotic knee jerk reaction. Let them suffer as a result of it.
Not all CT stores are doing this.

So Canadian Tire head office thinks removing bayonets after a shooting makes the rifles more safe?!? They realize that the cops were shot and not stabbed right?

That does seem pretty strange, but I know that Canadian Tire head office does have some opinions on what image they want their firearm isles to portray to the public at large. This knowledge came from a discussion with the Leduc Canadian Tire manager. Head office dropped into their store and didn't like the row of Tavor's sitting below a Steyr 50BMG next to a TNW MG34. CT's message was, you can sell "sporting arms" but asked/ordered the store to scale back "tactical" and "military" side of the house as they felt such firearms don't portray the CT image. Last time I was in they still had bayonets, but I could see how bayonets do make a firearm 'look mean'. For example mounting of a bayonet on a rifle portrays an increase show of force or readiness in many countries.

I don't agree with the logic, but they make a lot more selling to soccer moms than to gun nutz and they have to remember their customer base.

Read this thread this morning and within a couple hours it nearly cost me $190.00... CT on MacLeod South has some very, very nice condition laminates, in stock - bayonets attached. The Tacti-fool ones are all without bayonet.

I wasn't even going to go to that section of the store (always a bit dangerous), but had to check after reading this.

Talked to the clerk, and they have "crates of them, already cleaned" in the store room. $189.95 + tax. It isn't every CT. Some franchise owners have the balls to tell head office to go pound sand.

I'm probably going to regret not buying, but if I dump any more $$ on boomsticks before I head out on summer holidays later this month, my wife will have words. Very, stern, words.

I mean, sheesh, I've only bought 4 guns so far this year, I thought I was being good.

I'm thinking about just acquiring one of every year already. I'd need 6 more since I have a 50' and 54' already. Picking through a hundred would be fun and easy to do at my local CT.

Well, I had an interesting SKS buying experience yesterday at the Garden City CT in Winnipeg. Took forever(over 1/2 hour} to get someone to help and then the gun was put in a large garbage bag and escorted to the cashier, seriously..classy. I did not realize they included none of the usual accessories until I got home, very weird experience, at least it had a bayonet.
