Was wondering if SKS's are blued... or of they have some sort of specific finish on the metal. Mine has a few knicks where this... finish or whatever has been gone and shiny metal exposed. Not hard nicks or anything, I'm confident that whatever the barrel's done in... would certainly make it look new again. Anyone know?

Both Russian and Chinese SKS are blued as originally finished.

Wear and tear is normal, don't worry about it. A cold blue can be used for touchup, if you want. A professional hot reblue would not be cost effective on an SKS. Do it yourself parkerizing might be an option.
Bolt carrier can be blued, its heat treated alloy steel, colour results might not be predictable.

Why do some folks keep putting price values on guns they own?

If you like your rifle, then go ahead and spend money on it.

I have a shotgun that belonged to a very dear (now deceased) family member once upon a time. It's mine now and I had it reblued. It's a Winchester single shot .20ga ... Probably not worth it money wise... but sentimentally it sure was.

I tried G-96 blue cream... that stuff is crap! The cheap stuff at Canadian tire does a hell of a better job and lasts MUCH longer! The g-96 wouldn't blue the SKS at all, but the crappy tire stuff did. At least there are no shiny marks anymore.

It didn't look like the SKS was blued, but almost done over in this black crap... could be garbage factory bluing, I dunno... But it didn't look like any of the other firearms that I have. Anywho, mission acomplished. Now to find someone who'll ship me a recoil buffer and I'll be set. Decided to leave the rifle as is... not gonna get a 'drag' stock or anything like that. Just restained teh wood with red mahogany and sealed with polyurethane satin.

Agreed, who cares as long as you are happy with how it turns out and it still works :D.
All firearms are great, they all have their own character and appeal to someone.
Guns are a lot like women, they command a lot of respect and they can be fun to spend money on.
