SKS Bolt issue...

Went to the range today, and was going to put a few rounds through my Russian SKS when the trigger wouldn't pull. I looked at it, and noticed that the bolt wasn't sliding all the way forward, nor was the face of the bolt seating the back of the round properly.

When I took the bolt out, I noticed there is a little leaver just behind the cartridge ejection arm. Nominally it's positioned in the same direction as the ejection arm, but mine was on an angle. This pushed forward on the ejector arm which wouldn't allow the bolt to fully go forward.

The rifle shot perfectly the last time, and I'm not sure what would have caused this. It was an easy fix (a light tap with a hammer), but am unfamiliar with this issue. See pic.

Thoughts?

Hm.

Never had that happen to either of my SKS's, but I think that the firing pin might not have been installed correctly in the bolt. I assume that you'd recently disassembled the bolt for cleaning?

Every time I get back from the range shooting them I do this. No matter if it's Russain, Chinese or Yugo.
In the begining a couple of times I would rush myself and put in the pin the wrong way. It only happened a couple of times but it does happen to all of us at 1 point or another.

SKS repair manual lists this as one of the issues why the bolt can be stuck in mid-position. The solution listed for this is: "move the pin back to its place. if you can't move the pin back to its place - replace the pin"
