So I was cleaning my SKS the other night and decided to take off the metal butt plate. Aside from the hole where the Cleaning kit fits in, I noticed 2 other holes in the stock that were covered by the butt plate. I conviently fit 6 extra rounds in the butt stock and they don't cause any interference with the cleaning kit coming in and out. Is this what the holes are for or just a coincidence. Also, anyone else have these holes on their rifles?

I would guess that it is to cut down on some weight, or where some sort of attachment went during the manufacturing?

The extra holes may hold, six rounds but it not exactly convenant to remove the butt plate in order to access them.

I would say its purely weight reduction.

I might just leave 6 rounds in there in case shtf and I can't grab ammo, would be easy enough to get at if you really had to. Only 6 rounds, but definitely better than none.

if you dont have enuff time to grab ammo then you dont have enuff time to get at those 6 rounds . you're dead.
