Hi all !!!! does anyone know how to take off a byonet lug ?? Is it usually scratched under the ring?? Will I scratch the end of the barrel trying to take it off? (It is 54 Tula "unused")
 
Do you want to remove the front sight as well? If not, the best you can do is unscrew the screw that holds the bayo on. I did mine with a large flathead screwdriver with a pair of vice grips attached to it. Apply LOTS of downward pressure and go SLOWLY, as the screw head is very eager to strip. Also, there is a spring inside the bayonet assembly that causes the blade to shoot forward when the screw comes out, haha.
 
No I want to leave the front sight in place, and get rid of byonet assembly,
Including the mount that sticks down.
 
You could remove the pinsX2 and whack off the sight block and do the custom work off the rifle. Leave the pin area and it should all realign

Why?

Unless you mount a scope the point of impact will be off with the iron sights as the barrel harmonics will be all wonky.
 
well.. i agree, and i'll get my self one more "unreferb, unissued" SKS and keep it as a piece of history. But this one i'm turning in to a Hunter, using Choate Dragunov Stock,
POSP 8x42, loosing the byonet, installing quick release bi pod on the end of the hand guard, muzzle brake and bunch more.. So for this project i wanted a very good condition SKS.. and so far i'm happy with it...

There are lots of Norinco SKS out there to mod, and VERY few Russian SKS.

We will be getting 10,000 Russian SKS rifles in total for our glorious country... not as rare as one would think. A Norinco would be a better bet for customizing as there are quite a few more in country. Could be worse though, at least he is not butchering a Yugo M59!

Norinco is not that Reliable.....Plus I AM RUSSIAN... So i want a Russian SKS
not Chinese... whouldn't you.......Stop overreacting..... and its not butchering

What do you mean a Norinco is not Reliable? :rolleyes:

The only ones I have seen have problems have...

A) Been made up of parts from a parts bin and welded together...ie threaded barrel welded into a pinned receiver.

B) Ammo issues.

C) Bubbaed down with crappy aftermarket parts.

D) Operator stupidity.


Improving? Actually I'm sure Siminov would have a Russian word comparable to "Bubba".

As for rarity...yes 10.000 is considered rare as far as mass produced arms are concerned.

Consider the millions of Full wood Enfields that rolled into this country after WW2, and sold in department stores for $15. What are the full wood ones worth today? $500 to $700?

Once again your rifle, and you can do what you want with it.
And at least your making the ones owned by others worth more.

Sksman.com has a couple of bipods that attach to the bayo lug.
I'd like to play with mine too , but with easy no 'smithin' swap-outs.
Deer hunting is also in the program
