SKS Choice: Russian Refurb or Chinese new?

That looks great. Is that just a ordinary, plain old hardwood stock? I did'nt know that they can look that nice, with some work done to them.

Thanks. Yep, it's just your run of the mill Russian wood, I believe that one is 1951. I've tried a couple now, and I learn more each time I try one. Some of the things I have learned: iron the stock under a wet towel first. It can help to level the wood, and lifts oils that may be present. Use a wood stripper (Circa 1850 is what I use). This saves you a LOT of time. Sand, sand, sand. Any nicks or bumps will show through the final finish.

Once you have your clean, smooth stock free of any oils, your imagination is the only limitation to what you can do with it. I am not particularly good at woodwork, so for anyone that hasn't done one yet but wants to try, I'd say go for it. Worst case you can re-strip it and try something different if it doesn't work out.

It depends what are you after !!!

It is the same as buying Honda or Hyundai. Both cars and will get you from point A to point B. How fast you want to drive? :)

Russian SKS is my choice.

Would you like to clarify your comment. I do not think you know what your talking about...............
Does anybody? opinions are like ashholes, everyone has one.
Russian,Russian,Russian
Simonov was a Russian
In my mind even the refurbished Russian ones are better than the best Chinese.
flames are welcome, cuz i dont give a ratzass

Russsian. Dont get a cheap chinese copy...........................

I have handled, taken apart and shot both and IMHO the early Chinese military versions are on par with the fit and finish of the Russian ones. At the prices they are at get both. :D
