SKS Cleaning using Corrosive Surplus

I have a few sks's and I find it quickest to just take the whole thing apart after I'm done shooting and just rinse it down with warm water and dish soap (remove the stock and wooden gas tube cover), then just let everything dry (make sure it is bone dry) and oil before reassembling. Some probably find it overkill but I find it super convenient and gives me peace of mind. Otherwise for guns like my type 81 just running a few patches down the barrel and wiping the chamber and gas tube area a bit has been fine. No signs of rust so far

Yes, when using super-hot water the metal parts will dry easily But it will 'flash rust' as said. I always finish cleaning Same day with Hoppes and then lube - I use Mobil-1 saved from the jug when I change oil.
As for the OP and his stuck gun, it's likely from not tearing down and cleaning thoroughly, as boourns and others said. I don't bother with soap, that's Blackpowder theory. I also wanted to say that 'most' windex doesn't have ammonia these days, you can find it but not everywhere. And the ammonia isn't needed to de-activate the 'salts' in primers, hot water is all needed.
Finally, OP -DON'T go nuts with a bore brush !! SKSs aren't very accurate to start, you don't want to f- it up more. Use
Mild Chemicals and go slow.

PS - There's a site with TONS of info on SKSs. SKSBOARDS com.
And find someone with a borescope, if you don't have one. See how much damage has been done so far. Teslong scopes are only about $100 or so.
