SKS converted to Left hand charging?

Has anyone converted their SKS to left hand charging?
could you post details on what you had to do and pics if you can.

cut off the right side knob and -

option 1: drill and thread hole on other side, drill center of knob and thread, attach with screw

option 2: weld knob to other side

Snip, flip, hot glue. I've replaced the original charging handle with a hook style on a D carrier but went RH to keep it out of my ribs when slung. There is a nice flat are on the left side to D&T or weld to. If you weld, make a good fillet and use plenty of heat. Dave McFaul had a VZ LH charging handle break off and bust his eye socket up. I know SKS carriers are different steel and not as hard but still something to consider.

Im not a fan of uncertainty so ill D&T AND weld the handle on to the left side

I think that's why NEA carriers with drilled and tapped in place, and then welded. I think the "lightning bolt" ones in the states are just welded, and there's plenty of threads about the same experiences as Dave's.

That is correct, NEA chose this route even though its far more difficult to drill into them at the angle they are, being as hard as they are and then weld them in place. The one SKS carrier I welded never came apart but they use different steel and don't harden it quite so much.
