SKS - Corrosive ammo and firing pin.

Is it bad, probably not. Hot water flush is the bare minimum for me, but that's just me. When I go grab my sks I like to know its cleaned and maintained the way I want it to be prior to shooting, but that's me. If I strip it down to flush with water it only take a couple more minutes to wipe out with solvent, you need to figure out what level of clean works for you in the end.

Once I get through the corrosive ammo I have and get into the non corrosive ammo, I'll relax on cleaning as soon as I get home. Nice to not have to do it the same day, one plus to non corrosive ammo. But I enjoy stripping down a rifle or pistol and cleaning it but that's just how I roll.

Not a good idea to oil the pin either...unnecessary and a gunk/dirt attractant.

Really eh? I didn't know this. so you clean it, dry it, and then just leave it at that, a dry pin in the bolt? That and make sure it rattles when shaken of course?

I have oiled my bolt and pin after cleaning in the past. I will change this if it's not optimal though.

Yes, I scrub the fouling with solvent and old toothbrush then douse the whole assembly with brake cleaner. I only smear a drop of oil on the bottom of the carrier and in the side grooves of the assembly were friction contact occurs with the receiver during cycling. Nothing ever on the pin or in its channel.

I use a dry lube such as Remington Dry Lube in the bolt and gas system. Gives a bit of lube but doesn't attract and hold the debris like a wet lube will. Each time you do a shooting session, I dump boiling water over the bolt assembly, then to be doubly sure clean out firing pin channel with a solvent spray (I also use compressed air after that) then give a squirt of the dry lube and you are good to go for next time.
