Sks + Corrosive Ammo = This (WARNING graphic)

Sks + Corrosive Ammo = This (WARNING graphic)

So What? I can take some pictures of a 12gauge pump shotgun that is just as rusty , yet it never fired a corrosive round ever. Guns will rust if you don't clean them. Period. It has very little to do with ammo.

30 years ago we shot truck loads of surplus ammo, and we didn't know what corrosive ammo meant, we just cleaned and oiled them before we put them away.

Clean and oil your gun when you have it out. Thats how the previous owners of these rifles in Russia did it 80+ years ago, and they still work today. They couldn't read, they didn't know math, and they had no Internet, but they knew how to oil a gun. Looks like they were smarter than a whole bunch of gun owners today.

Ok? Lol I suggest you oil your 12 gauge then

So you know he hasnt visited to clean the gun, you know what corrosive does to it and you still let it get that bad? Then to top it off YOU'RE the one who will have to clean it.

How are you teaching him anything?

Either let it sit and rust until he does clean it or tell him, yes its your rifle, no you cant shoot it until you get your PAL, pretty simple really.

as much as i'd hate to do this to the rifle. Leave it and let it get worse. If you clean it for him at this point, you're not teaching him anything

Strip it and clean it in front of him.
Then step away and tell him to reassemble the rifle.
If he can't, then don't give it back.

Thats nuthin! My buddy was up from edmonton and brought his CZ. I opened the chamber and there had to be an 1/8 inch of rust!!! It was so bad I asked when was the last time you cleaned this? He replys never! Shooting coorosive for 3 friggin years! I couldnt believe my eyes wish i took a picture. I told him its unsafe to use and hey says it always shoots LOL he couldnt even chamber a round and she locked up solid. Its now a mantle peice.

I see SKS in worse shape than that at my local shooting range. Lots of Natives have gotten their hands on one around here ever since the end of the LGR.

After firing corrosive ammo, you're suppose to check on the gun even after cleaning it once a day for about 5 days. If you notice the shiny clean barrel start to tint bronze well looking though the barrel, you better clean it again or oil it better.

Solid advice my friend, I myself have 5 red rifles all with round counts in the 1000's and the is not a speck of rust to be found anywhere

And ya I've decided not to clean my buddies rifle. Haha and what's with all the people saying "teach him a lesson" lol what lesson is that?. He already knows his gun is rusted. He knows no cleaning = rust and I'm not gonna clean it. Lol he still is my friend I'm not gone be a big d1ck about it, it's his rifle he can do what he want.

Best part is that if that were pretty much any non-red rifle it'd be a write-off.
Since it's an SKS, just douse it in 50/50 piss/gasoline and off to the range we go.

Ok . I understand the premise here but, your friend does not have his PAL so he buys you a loaner rifle . You go out shooting with him and since he can't legally posses, store, transport or keep the rifle on his own you bring it from your house to the range and back . He knows all about cleaning and maintenance of guns which fire corrosive ammo, you arrive home with 2 dirty stinky guns and clean one . Fair enough ,did you fail to notice he was not with you on the way home lol ? What if you accidentally cleaned his gun and let yours rust ? or is it a pretty liberal arrangement ? Did you not realize the implications of waiting to clean it or just decided to teach him good ? either way I would have cleaned it but that's just me . The next time I went shooting I would leave his at home and just tell him if you don't clean em they rust shut .

No no I see what youre saying and let me be very clear, there would be NO WAY I would accidentally clean his and let mine rust (that's a chargable offense don't you know? Haha)

But anyways, when I get home from shooting in the pits I usually have 3-5 (sometimes even more) of my own rifles to clean and usually all of them minus one are shooting corrosive. We usually get home around 5 o'clock and usually on a Saturday so I'm itching to go out and have a few beers or something of that sort, not sit at home and clean rifles all night so I clean mine and mine only. He usually says hell come over the next day and clean his, but after a case of molson the night before he's usually a no show! Ha

I know there's people on here that cringe at the sight of gun neglect as do I, but again it's not my rifle, my rifles never turn orange.

Im sure there's 100's if not 1000's of corrosive shooting rifles rusted up in basements all across Canada, I just never thought I'd see one in my house lol or post pics of it on the net to flame my buddy

I have a funny feeling he will never get his pal and this will eventually be my rifle, that's the only reason I want to clean it
