Ok so I am just wondering if it makes sense to get the sks barrel crowned and then threaded to put a muzzle brake on it ? Or is it pointless to get it crowned if I'm going to thread the end of the barrel to put a muzzle brake on it ............ ?

actually the pointless part is the muzzle brake...it's an sks....it doesn't kick so what are you trying to reduce?
if you're just wanting to be quicker on your follow up, well again it's an sks so it's not like you'll be grouping that tight anyway.
just load it, shoot it and then load it again.
cheers

this x2... Hit the gym and handle it. lol.

How much more useless can people be? Try answering the question maybe... To the OP: crown the muzzle. It makes a difference even with a muzzle device.

I agree with all the suggestions but here's the answer to your question, if it is cut properly(straight and burr free) you dont need to get recessed crown, if you are putting MB on. Brake will protect your crown. But at the same token it wouldn't hurt to have it crowned as it will make sure the cut is straight(right where rifling ends).

I know right? I was thinking the same thing. But this is also his 2nd time asking the same question... anyway...

I personally like the clamp on one for like 20 or 30$. I didnt want any permanent mods on my sks for value in the future, and I didnt want to put too much money into a inexpensive gun. But if you want to thread it go for it, im sure that would work out great. Factory crown looks good on mine.

I put one on my SKS purely for esthetic reasons. For $9 why not?

I shot the rifle for the first time today and also shot another SKS of mine without a brake.

I felt no difference in muzzle jump between the two.

Don't bother with a threaded brake either, just get a pin on one. They are very easy to install and very secure. Mine did become slightly loose today after about 50 rounds, but I shimmed it with some aluminum foil and it's tighter now.
