Hi all,
I recently purchased an SKS-d. I know that the bolt does not hold open on an empty AK mag. However, I have heard it is easier to insert and remove the mags with the bolt locked back. How does one engage the bolt-hold-open device on the SKS. On my "normal" SKS, the mag follower holds it open.
I am intrigued as to how this is achieved on and SKS-D. I know it is possible as I have seen it in You-Tube videos.
Any info will be appreciated.

As I can remember, there is a D model that does open on an empty mag, and its not using the magazine to do it. Not sure how it works but the pros on here may give you a better idea. I have a D model and it too does not hold open, but I do remember seeing something like that about 10yrs ago.

the "D" does not have a bolt hold, its removed to make space for the bigger AK mag but a company in the US called navy made a BO in the carrier , its activated manually.

a member here managed to do the same after breaking many a drill bits.

BO is an excellent feature during battle but in civy i can live without it .
