Hi there,
I had a few questions that I hope you wise-men can help me with..

First!

can someone show me the back-strap that the receiver connects to the stock with? (I'm assuming it is the band with the one screw going down through it.. just wanted to be sure)

ALSO, is it possible/feasable to put a long barrel on the SKS-D? about 610mm

since it's 7.62 I'm assuming it could be done fairly easily,

ALSO, is it possible to put an AK top metal receiver part onto the SKS-D without too much modification? (I'm assuming one can't just snap it on, but you tell me,)

thanks so much, take care!

"Back strap" - not sure what part you mean.
Rebarrelling is possible. It would make a difference if the barrel is threaded or pressed and pinned into the receiver. It won't be cheap.
AK top cover is not structural. Sheet metal. The rifle will fire without it. In the SKS, the recoil spring bears against the top cover, which is machined steel. Part of the action.

sounds pretty complex anything can be done with the right amount of money what did u want your end product to look like a svd?

well, I have this idea to make an SVD fake,

I'm between using an already Bubba'd SVT-40 (same round etc, similar look)
or a CZ-858, or SKS..
not sure what to use,

I have a PSL stock (almost identical to SVD stock)
AK top metal,
and a POSP scope..

Ideally I'd like to use a Bubba'd SVT-40, but those are hard to come by..

however, if I did use one, I'm sure the conversion would be quite straight foreward..
at least moreso than the others..

It has been done, and somewhere there are pics on here of this.
Methinks you would have better luck using an SKS with a threaded barrel. :D

when you say "it has been done" do you mean with an SKS D, or one of my other options..

plz elaborate and post pics if you find em!

also, please for the love of god.. no one suggest an ATI stock to me..
I'm going to blow up if anyone suggests that again..

it's pretty clear what I'm trying to do.
I already have the SVD stock, the POSP scope, etc..
I don't want something that reminds me of the SVD, i want something that is as close as possible..

Longer barrels have been screwed on sks's, I'd see about finding an SVD barrel with the sights attached...as it should also be .311 dia' inside.

Also the receiver cover on the SKS, and the AK are very different.
The SKS uses it's receiver cover as part of the bolt slide, while the AK can be used without it's receiver cover.

As for the links to the SKS posted here with the longer barrel...I have no idea, as it was last year or more when this was posted, but it was in this section.

Do you have a proper mount for your POSP scope?
If not I'd order one from Kalinka optics.

Yes i do.

do you think that a PSL stock will attach to any of the three more easily than the other?
here is a pic of it
http://www.globaltrades.com/ak_stocks/427.jpg

a screw goes down through the jaggies past the gap, and into the grip..
the jaggies reside inside the receiver (faint line shows where the rear of the receiver is)

Hmmm, good question.

Short of making a whole new stock, I'd be tempted to try to make some sort of adaptor based on the original SKS stock. And on the other side of the adaptor Sort of shape that resemble what is on the SVD...ie try to meet the engineering needs of both items.

Methinks your project has potential. :)

yeah I've thought of that..

my friend is a woodworker and has commited to help in whatever way I need..
but as far as custom metal work is concerned...don't know about that..

I've considered the whole "adaptor" thing though yes..

really with the SVT-40 to SVD plan, it's basically just a matter of sticking things on, my stock, my scopemount/scope and trimming away wood from the receiver and either making the exisiting forewood look correct or making a custom wood peice...
pretty much all thats needed...

Sounds like a lot of time and money invested into something that won't group crap. Trust me, you don't want to put money into an SKS apart from a sling and ammo.
