Sks D??

If you can find one for 200. then get it.Otherwise just get a cheapo. I like my D and find the 30 rnd AK mag is way easier to insert. The 10's are too small to grab onto. I ground off a 1/8th " from the follower to allow a bit of spring action under the bolt and the top bullet. Fixed that problem. Just don't cut off too much. I've used the zytel mag for a reg sks and it worked well too. So what's the difference. They all shoot 5!! Hey Randy want to part with that old beat up russian stock? Nice setup, but I think I'd take the bipod off if I were you. I don't think it helps with accuracy

I need to keep the stock in case I want to swap back to the 50's look. Yeah the bi-pod is more for display as I usually use my sandbags.

The advantage of the regular SKS over the SKS-D is that the bolt stays open after the last shot. But the SKS-D mags are better for quick reloads, especially if you can use 30 rounders (in the USA for exemple... Or if you use your time machine!) Ah! The good old days when I used to shoot a couple of quick 30 rounds mags until my handguard started smoking violently!

The mags of the SKS-D are no more difficult to insert that in an AK-47 BTW. That being said, the AK mags are not forgiving if you do not latch them properly in front before rocking them into place! Sometimes, you improperly insert them and they jam in place! The AK mags are the best when it comes to reliability and strength but the insertion is a problem as well as the lack of a bolt hold-open capability.

If you have consistent problems, maybe the problem is with your particular rifle OR your mags have followers that botom out and prevent the magazine full insertion... Try inserting an empty magazine or a magazine filled with only 4 rounds.

I believe the SKS is the best autoloading rifle for the price... Next would be the Norinco M14... I've never had a malfunction with my SKS-D. I like the short stock because it is fast and works with heavy clothing or vests.
