I just saw what looked like an SKS D in our local gun store (Red Deer) for $250
It is crisp and clean brand spanking new , Its labelled as just SKS . the owner of the store said it was chinese Seminov . but it had a detachable mag(SKS D ?) not the duckbill kind , and had a plastic pistol grip which looked factory fitted and a wooden stock . and a spike bayo
I haddnt seen one like this before any ideas?

i would buy it just bcos its different.

you cant lose cos anything that is not a reg SKS is worth alot more than $250 .

Most likely a modified regular SKS. The D models where never equipped with bayonets and they come with a regular Chinese mystery wood stock. The D model was never in any kind of service; it was just a commercial variant made by Norinco, without a bayonet.

A regular SKS modified to take AK mags is not a good buy.

Some have had bayonets, I saw one a few weeks back.
The plastic handle you mention is not a stock item.

I'd check the mag well to see if it has a liner for the Mag to slide into.
Some home jobs I have seen didn't do this.

What?! You wanna buy this POS SKS D just to take it out to wound more animals? I don't think you belong here.

Wound animals ?

What the #### are you talking about ?

You should pay attention to who posts what and redirect your grade school sarcasm at them........

Must you hijack every thread just because you are a bad shot with questionable hunting ethics ?

You obviously have a retarded memory. You know jack####e about ethics, you don't even hunt. You do nothing but hug the trees and lick the liberl's a$$. You an SKS hater came to this section to hijack the SKS threads. Since when you became interested in SKS?

Use the search function and choke on your words......

I bought a SKS D new with a factory bayonet. A friend bought a 5 gun pack and I got one, he sold the other three. Spent the evening cleaning all the grease out of it when I got it. Probably only put 250 rounds through it so far. I think of the bayonet as a monopod.

Remember, SKS D's had been exported from China since the 1980's, and the majority of these had the folding spike bayonet.

Many had the bayonets and bayonet lugs removed to comply with the AW Ban of 1994 for export to the USA.

Shortly after the AW Ban, a Chinese military weapon ban was imposed, and the post ban SKS D's could no longer be imported Stateside. But they could still be imported into Canada.

There were also early imports of standard SKS rifles to Canada that were more or less professionaly converted to take the AK mag. These were known as SKS "Sporters", and often came in a Monte Carlo type stock. These can be identified by having the standard SKS mag release rather than the larger spoon type AK mag release as featured on the actual SKS D.

I'd have to see it in person but...

I have never seen a 5 or 10 round AK Mags on any Chinese rifle.
But stranger things have happend.

Checking the serial number would tell you the date...Vietnam time, or pre 80's would be closer to military issue.

Any markings that say "Norinco" would mean a good chance it was a commercial rifle.

In the pic the bolt carrier under the cocking lever looks late period...no milling.

If the bayonet has a rivet instead of a bolt...late.
Blond wood...late.
Spike bayonet...possibly late.

Still a neat rifle to own. :)
I'd be interested in knowing if the barrel was pinned or threaded?

Dare I assume this is rollover from the "Why do people hunt with semi autos" thread?

naw, i think it started in the thread where he said this
I sat there for 10 minutes listening to him bawling (for those who has never heard that, that sounds pretty much like a human bawl) and decided to put another one into his head to end his suffering.

and it's been downhill ever since
