Just a quick question for the SKS crowd. How is the SKS-D compared to the regular SKS? I have an opportunity to get a used one (all are used i know) as i like the detatch. mag but dont want to buy a P.O.S. Rifle looks good and is only missing bayonet (which should be easy to replace). Any thoughts?

My best friend has a "D" and it works fine and shoots good. His was not mil surp so it cannot be fitted with a bayonet and it does not have the relief cut in the stock for the bayonet anyway.

He just has a hard time finding affordable mags as the only place he can see them is at overpriced gun shows.

Rifleman.

The D is worth quite a bit more than a regular norinco sks. They aren't being made anymore so there is a limited number in Canada.

I have one and it's fine. I shoot my regular sks more often, but it's nice to have a D too.

As soon as I find another I would buy it, my dealer had some ak-47 5/30 mags that I bought laying around. Look at your local gun shops, I went into mine and asked if they knew what a sks-d was, he turned around and said here yah go! 10 minutes later I was on my way with my sks-d! That gun was sitting there for 10 mounths!

I've had both, same thing to shoot. A good duckbill mag works great in a regular sks (I said "good") and stripper loading is more sensible than mag changes when your ammo already comes on stripper clips. I'd buy one again, but I wouldn't pay twice as much for one- buy a cz858 before you do that!

Yup. Given a choice on SKS models for that kind of cash I bought a gently used Yugo. Next choice whould have been the 858.

Too bad most Ds didn't come with the stripper guide. Then you could have the mall ninja 5/30 and the convenience of the stripper.

I just got my D and have had several sks's. What I like is the mag, when hunting it sucks unloading the box mag and then having to load up again and again. With a mag it is done in a heartbeat. Yes i have also had the duckbilled mags but they are not a real long term heavy use item.
