SKS - Decided to finally get one, but its modded

after adding up the cost of the mods it was cheaper than if i bought the accessories seperately.

That's no small point: like automotive builds, firearm buyers often pick-up "gun projects" for (sometimes much) less than what the builders put into them. :yingyang:

Come to think of it, that's how I was able to afford a bunch of interesting (esp. milsurp!) range toys when I was first starting-out....

It’s like Ganderite said; It's like a mo-ped. Fun, but I would not want to be seen with one.

I wish I have a mo-ped! I don't mind being seen on one. I would be guy with the biggest smile in town and I would ride her until I can't ride no more. Unfortunately I only have a track bike and she is too finicky and expensive to maintain. Oh, and she might get jealous of my mo-ped. I guess you can say that she would be jelly of the jelly. Think I will pick up an sks instead.

You should get a sevrnsixtwo systems mag release kit for it, gives you the ak style mag release and let's you cut the duck bills off the mags.

looks like a interesting setup for those releases, the one on the gun is a bit hard to remove a new mag versus a older mag, so its sticky on the lock in tab, i may need some more room on the release as on the new mag it has to be pulled further back, and the release hits the trigger guard.

It looks cool; it looks fun, I like it. I have a stock one; put on a 1" recoil pad to lengthen it, bedded the barrel to stop it from sliding back and forth, and free hand with stock sights, I can put them all on paper at 100 yards with dirty Chinese surplus ammo. It's worth more than I paid for it, the way it shoots; it's not worth investing any more into it considering what it is.

I'm already seeing owners pushing back on the highly modified SKS rifle trend. Pure and neat, without any of the add-ons.

I don't think the hobby is there yet, but in not too many years, the trend will swing back. A bit like people who buy sporterized WW2 bolt-actions and painstakingly put them back to original (hoping to find all the pieces the last owner didn't throw out).

i ordered another sks, just for keeping stock. anything in my collection from ww2 era is untouched, will maybe add a scope etc. but nothing that cant be changed back, these sks's are still cheap and plentiful which is nice. will i shoot the stock one? most likely, but this will be getting the most rounds through it.
